What is it about tree service that puts you off? Too much real work? Stop chasing easy money. Crypto is a ponzi scheme and you are late to the party.
Hard work is not an issue as most work is subcontracted to other crews. Bit it is cutthroat and especially if you have to pay workers, you have to micromanage them especially as they are trying to squeeze more out of the pie where you can end up break even (or worst) if you are not careful. You also need to be certified to do reports. Dad has been getting away with this, but all it takes is one too many complaints or change of admin that follows the book and we are in trouble. Not too good memorizing types of trees or as mentally involved in the operation of the business.

Dad and I used to work together at this more on the 00s decade before he started using crews in the late 00s and forward.

In life there are rarely short cuts or cheat codes. First thing you have to do is change your attitude, where there is a will there is a way. Nobody is going to save you, you have to put in the work yourself and be consistent over time. Wish you luck though
Whatever.

With so many self proclaimed business owners on this site, you'd think there'd be more suggestions...

My dad is a business owner. He says “Most people have no business starting a business.”

(He means that one either has a talent for entrepreneurship or they don’t.)

Yeah I understand the phrase... So are you suggesting that since there are so many business owners on the site, that many of whom probably shouldn't be an entrepreneur... It's better to not ask for their opinions?

There are literally endless types of business's someone could create. You would need a lot of information to even begin to make suggestions. It would depend on skill set, area, how much capital, interests etc. The lowest risk and cost would probably be a service related business where you start out as the labor then scale up as you could afford to hire out. You would probably spend a good 3-5yrs until you started to make decent money going that route. Doable but takes a lot of sacrifice.

Lets say you have under $ 10,000, what are the first three things you would do in such a scenario? Would you just try to find stocks or investments that can double or triple your money? Would you get vaccinated right away? Would you look for other work-from-home opportunities? Would you take courses (which I've taken more than enough in life to feel like I'm going nowhere. Like I'm good with book knowledge but do not find it helpful when it comes to where the rubber hits the road)?
I've only read the OP and making this response. You haven't stated why you're not making money through Real Estate or Insurance, your eggs are in that basket so I can't advise with you painting half a picture.

I would not get vaccinated to travel, work or survive, you made a decision for a reason, so see that out to it's logical conclusion even if that's death (I'll never take it). Of course, if it's not that important go ahead get the poison and get a job.

Crypto is the obvious quick flip, but you need to dedicate time and research to it, and the market has been awful, nobody truly knows the market makers pulling the strings.

I bought narcotics in Cali and sold them in bulk in the UK, that's high risk medium reward. I realised I'm making good money through my business but the inner hoodrat in me wanted to do some hoodrat things. I don't advise crime.

Set up a cooking/food delivery business, take up a delivery job.

I don't know what your priorities are, if it's money then you can take any jobs, if it's a career, then giving you career advice at 45yo with limited background info is difficult.

I run a cloud consultancy and specialist staffing company - focusing on SAP, SuccessFactors, Oracle, Workday, and broader Business Analyst Project Managers (BA/PM). I guide careers for a living, feel free to PM me.

Just as an update to this thread. While there has been no major break-throughs, I've switched to another insurance company and have earned a small amount of money (ie compared to just over nothing in the previous company) without having to leave the house or interact with anyone outside of the computer that I'm working on. The bills I am paying out is too oppressive to save anything. Dad's work has suffered some serious set-backs where he either under-priced his jobs, or have got bad people working under him where he ended up owing too much money to other people for the Tree Service to look viable (as I had portrayed it earlier). With insurance, there are virtually no expenses directly to keep it operational beyond the set-up. However, there is a feeling like there is no personal time and things will fall throught the cracks quickly and badly if I'm not attentive enough.

I don't have money to invest at the moment but my credit score right now is great and I'm not totally dependent on welfare as I have more of my own money coming in (ie which is being reported). I do feel a sense of understanding of others who claim they are working hard to pay bills but can't seem to make any headway or support themselves properly and the idea that people who are struggling are somehow bums or playing video-games all day couldn't be further from the truth.
