"The Coffee Shop Girl You Never Spoke To"

You've replayed it a hundred times. She stood three feet away, scrolling her phone. You had an opening. You composed the perfect line — after she was gone.

For all you know, she's married now. To some guy who said something. Anything.

Openers are cheap. Almost any sentence works when it's delivered within three seconds. The expensive part is the standing there, drafting and deleting, while the window quietly closes.

The "22 Rules" stripped out my hesitation. What to open with, how to keep it alive, and the one habit that costs guys more women than anything else: waiting for perfect.

Hey guys, so I just created an account on this website and I was hoping for some advice. I know this post is kind of long, so if you don't want to read the whole thing you can skip to the bottom and I'll provide a significantly less detailed, short version.

So I'm a senior in college and, basically, I share a mutual friend with this really hot Hispanic girl who I've met twice now. I'll mention what happened in each interaction in the following two sections:

1.) So I'm in one of the campus dining halls at night with some friends after a bit of drinking and partying. I see the Hispanic girl walk in and she goes over to a table that has some other friends of mine and she sits there. I ask some of my friends at my table if they know anything about her and they say she has a boyfriend. I am mildly disappointed but I decide to go up and talk to her/the group anyway just for practice.

So I'm kind of a fan of the indirect approach, and since the table was mostly friends of mine I figured it would be easy to go about that route. There were five other people at the table besides myself, three of whom I am friends with. As soon as I got to the table, everyone pretty much started talking to me. I came in with a big smile and really high energy, which came off really well I think. The two people at the table who I had never met were the Hispanic girl and some guy (who turned out to be her boyfriend). After talking for like 1-2 minutes with some of my friends, I introduced myself to the guy first, and then the girl. One of my friends said something about her being Puerto Rican as I shook her hand and so I asked her if she spoke Spanish. She said yes, so I told her (in Spanish) that I was learning the language but could not yet speak it perfectly. She was smiling the whole time and said something in Spanish that I didn't hear perfectly but I think it was along the lines of "Oh that's great" or something like that. At that point I got a phone call because my friends were leaving to go smoke so I told everyone at the table that I had to go and I told the guy and the girl that it was nice to meet them, and I left.

In retrospect I barely spoke to the girl and I was only there for a very short time, but I feel like I gave a good impression in case I ended up talking to her in the future. I felt like coming in with such a high energy level went really well and I think I developed a good amount of social proof.

2.) The second time I spoke to this girl was the following weekend at a nearby bar. She was, once again, sitting at a table with some of my friends. I had been jumping from table to table and group to group talking to tons of friends of mine that night. Anyway, I went over to the table and sat down and said hello to everyone. Like the previous weekend, I spoke to my friends first for a minute or so. One of my friends at the table (who is a girl) then asked me if I had met hispanicgirl and asiangirl (another girl who I didn't know sitting next to hispanicgirl). The Hispanic girl and I both mentioned how we had meet each other the previous weekend and I introduced myself to the other girl.

A Hispanic friend of mine who was sitting to my left during this interaction whispered a joke in Spanish in my ear. I asked the Hispanic girl if she wanted to hear a joke in Spanish and she said yes. I told her this joke (it's really corny and stupid) and she laughed a lot. I told her one more and got the same reaction. After this I talked to some other people for a little bit. I went to some other groups and talked to a lot of other people, which I feel like was another good demonstration of social proof. It seemed like I was friends with everyone at the bar, and there were a ton of people there. I sat back down at the table where the Hispanic girl was. As I sat down, a bunch of people got up to go get a drink and there were only a handful of people left at the table (including myself, hispanicgirl and asiangirl). Out of nowhere (I don't know why) I decided to run Style's jealous girlfriend routine on them. I started telling it when a friend of mine, who knew exactly what I was doing, came up behind me and asked me what the names of the people involved in the story were. Fortunately, I managed to give a quick answer but I looked at him when I answered and we both just started laughing and the girls were giggling too. I finally finished the story and we talked for a few minutes until some friends of mine were leaving and I went with them.

------------------------------------------------------------------

So I think both interactions went well and she seemed to be smiling and laughing in both instances, but I don't really know what to do next. I see her once in a while in the campus dining hall: should I talk to her there? Even if she's with some other friends who I don't know? Should I wait to encounter her randomly over the weekend? Basically I don't know how to escalate considering the fact that she has a boyfriend.

**Any advice on how to proceed or critiques of what I've done so far would be greatly appreciated!**

Thankyou!

Abridged version:
I am a senior in college and I met a hot hispanic girl (who is also a senior) and it turns out she has a boyfriend. I've met her twice and both times it went well, I demonstrated a lot of social proof, came in with high energy, made her laugh, etc. However, I don't know what to do from this point. Any advice?

"You Can't Argue a Woman Into Liking You"

You made your case like a lawyer. Stable job. Good guy. Ready for something real. All true. All irrelevant.

She weighed your points, nodded along, felt nothing — then fell hard for some tattooed bartender with a motorcycle and a gambling problem.

Logic is where attraction goes to die. The "22 Rules" work a level deeper, on the subconscious switches that decide within minutes whether you register as a MAN or as part of the furniture.

Stop presenting evidence. Start flipping switches.

Find.......a........new...........girl!! Why do you even want somebody else's girl? You're still in college and there are probably tons of other ones around. Why her? There really isn't anything special about any one girl to be honest so it really doesn't make sense to be hung up on anyone in particular, especially one that's already taken.

Has she ever told you she has a boyfriend?

If not, just ask her out. She'll either say yes; in which case the boyfriend doesn't matter, or she'll say no, she has a boyfriend, in which case he does matter, and it's game over, find a new girl.

Simple as that. Finding a new girl would be better in general though. But, many college girls are willing to flip around to a better guy if they think it's worthwhile.

I appreciate the response. I thought about what you said quite a bit actually and really considered it. You are right that there isn't anything particularly unique (that I know of at least) about this girl and there are obviously plenty of other girls around. So I was trying to figure out why I still feel so compelled to go after this girl. Logically it makes no sense and you are 100% right, or at least that would be the case if my goal were simply to get a girl.

When I really think about it, my goal isn't to get a girl - my goal is to get THIS girl. Why is that my goal? I believe it's because I want the challenge but I'm not really even sure. I know this is really shallow, but I kind of think of my interaction with her as like a video game, and to get with her is like unlocking an achievement. You don't actually get anything for unlocking an achievement, but it feels good nonetheless. Plus, it's fun to play the game itself. I realize that this is probably an extremely unhealthy way of viewing the situation lol but that's just how I think.

Thanks for the advice! She has never told me she has a boyfriend, though the subject has never really come up. So you think my best shot would just be to straight up ask her out? I was thinking it might be beneficial to get to know her a bit better so she becomes more comfortable with me but I can see where you are coming from. You think I would be better off moving quickly?

"So, What Do You Do for Fun?"

She asks it casually, mid-sip. And you feel the floor open up, because the honest answer is work, gym, and a couple shows you're half-watching.

Women rarely say this out loud, but a man with a life is attractive before he says a word. The guy who spent Saturday deep-sea fishing and came back with photos and a story — he walks in already interesting.

The "22 Rules" pushed me to build a life worth talking about. Turns out the fastest way to be interesting to women is to be interested in your own life first.

Know what else is an achievement? knowing when to walk away. Most of the challenge is in your head for a game that doesnt exist. Girls are pretty transparent generally.

Dont chump around "getting to know her a bit better so she becomes more comfortable with me" and entering the friendzone because you lack the balls. Just ask her out. If she says no move on, maybe try again in afew months if you even care by that point.

Move fast or get left for dust.

Comfort(too much of it) will get you a new friend. (That means no pvssy!)

Personally, I believe no woman is off limits unless she has a ring on her finger. The entire reason people go in and out of relationships is to find someone they want to spend their life with (usually). Granted, many relationships just end because they run their course or one person's feelings change, but I'd be willing to bet that in some way or another, directly or indirectly, another person is what causes these feelings to change.

Girl meets boy, girl dates boy. Girl meets new boy, realizes boyfriend lacks many qualities of new boy, girl dumps boyfriend for new boy or just dumps boyfriend because she has discovered his inadequacies.

Considering you're a senior in college, you don't have much time left to "become friends with her and then escalate." I'd either ask her out or the next time you talk to her alone just ask her straight up that you've noticed she's been flirty with you and if so what's the deal. If she doesn't deny it make a move, if not move on.
