I have chatted to a few friends of mine about a new business venture I am going to start in the fall. My plan is to sell local resources overseas, because the local economy is quite stagnant,(and obviously I can profit from the sales). A lot of the mills in my area have closed down because there is no one buying the lumber. Yet, my buddies somehow think I can magically come up with enough capital to build a factory, and manufacture wood products and market them at a competitive price. Aside from using alchemy, I can't think anyway to push the lumber to a Canadian company (I am Canadian) because as far as I know, nobody over here can afford to buy our lumber, which is why the local mills are closed in the first place.
If I can sell some of the lumber to foreign markets, it would create jobs in the area (Mills reopened) and various other business' in the area would benefit from a ripple effect (several restaurants and bars have shut down despite being successful 10-20 years previous). In addition to those effects, one expert manufacturer explained to me that Canada is going weather the recession a lot better because we have a lot of resources that can be sold to foreign markets, and the profit can then be reinvested to develop more competitive manufacturing.
Every time I've mentioned this to people, they've acted like I just said the n-word, or that I love Hitler(I don't btw). I would just like to hear some people's thoughts on this idea and have an open discussion. Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
