I went to two that were free, no guest list. I'm not quite sure which street we were at, stayed at the Sheraton downtown.

Most of the better clubs you have to pay to get in. Most of the bars are free though... There are a bunch of bars that have "ladies nights" where the chicks drink for free, so try to get in on those.

With French in Quebec you have to watch out though. Most people in Montreal speak understandable French which is closer to the mainstream, however most people from other parts of Quebec usually speak Quebecois, which is basically to French what Kentucky English is to other English... Quebecois is hard to understand even for native French speakers from countries like France...
