I'm not saying everything on this site is nonsense, but I think there should be some sort of primer to help new members understand the context of what's being said.
For a long time, I've had problems with a lot of the advice offered on these forums. Most of it just isn't practical for most guys, and the advice that is good is not explained well enough. Here are some examples:
"Cold Approaches"- I guess I have the most problem with this particular tactic. It's a well known fact that 99.9 percent of cold approaches don't work. Think about it, you're a female minding her own business, and some guy comes up to you and asks for your phone number. One can only assume that only very desperate women would hand their number out to a complete stranger.
My advice- It's fine to ask women out, but you'll be more successful if you do it in a situation where you can at least build some rapport first. This could be study groups at college, just saying "hi" first in the hall, or starting small talk a few times before you jump at her asking for a number. You have to understand that in today's society, women are more cautious(and with good reason). You can still ask women out, but do it in a venue that's more comfortable for both of you and your success rate will sky rocket.
"Kino"- This is another one of those aggressive tactics touted on this site that I don't like. Why do some of you think that touching a woman you hardly know is going to make her attracted to you? I know this is supposed to be subtle, but come on, most women are going to get creeped out by a guy trying this.
My solution- Try to exert your masculinity by non-physical means at first. Eye contact, body language etc...... I think the non-physical approach conveys the same sentiment without making her as uncomfortable.
"**** and Funny"---Now this I actually agree with. I think being C&F is a very common occurrence among men and women, and is most often successful. The only caveat I can think of, is if the woman doesn't have high self esteem, busting on her too much might have the opposite affect.
I think I've spelled out some of the things I think are wrong with the advice on this site. Perhaps a few modifications that I've mentioned above will help those in their pursuit for romance.
