Meeting girls at a social event

Hey guys, so when you meet a woman, do you do the approach , exchange numbers and then move on to another set when at a social event like a birthday party, reunion, get together, wedding etc?

After a successful number close do you go and approach another woman to show social proof to the initial woman you met? Do you just be a social butterfly, life of the party type and just go around mingling after ?

If at 1 social event, I tend to put my energy and focus on 1 woman. Things tend to backfire if you're asking multiple women for their phone numbers.
