What was it that Mark McGwire admitted to taking?

I know it wasn't illegal, but people say it was sort of a steroid.

One of my friends used that or something similar, he bought it at GNC I think and had tremendous gains. I just wonder if I should give him a lot of credit for it, or was he really using a type of steroid.

What do you all think

andro, which at that point was legal, now it isn't I think, at least in US.
