This makes no sense.

Headline: "He Thought He Was Spending the Night with a Woman He Met Online"

Chelsea Perkins, 35, shot Matthew Dunmire once in the back of the head in the Terra Vista Nature Study Area in Valley View in March 2021, about four years after she had accused Dunmire of rape. P
erkins in 2017 reported to Virginia Beach police that Dunmire had raped her. Police later told the FBI that they didn’t have enough evidence to file charges against Dunmire, according to court records.

A woman he met online? He doesn't remember the women who accused him of rape 4 years ago?

She planned it and deliberately lured him into the woods and shot him in the back of the head.

How is that only second degree murder?

Large segments of The Manosphere will be citing this as "proof" that we live in "a feminine-primary social order" before dawn, same way Intersectionalists secretly rejoiced when Roe V Wade was overturned...

The US Supreme Court handed them "further evidence that The Patriarchy is alive and well", right when they were becoming a punch line

Something about the story doesn't make sense. She claims that the victim raped her 4 years prior. Unless the guy raped a new woman every week, you'd think he'd remember her when they matched on a dating app??

I didn't read the article, but just assumed she was using a fake profile pic? Lure him into thinking he's about to bang some hot random girl and then kill him?

^^It's not it's first degree but it would appear the DA's office offered her a plea deal (second degree) in exchange for her pleading guilty and thus avoiding the time and expense of trial...

I hadn't heard about this story but since she did plead guilty (versus a conviction) that's my read on it.

I used to work in the legal field; such plea arrangements are quite common.

That's what I thought... But what about this part:

She initially faced up to 25 years in prison.
Up to 25 years means max, which means before the plea deal her max prison time was 25 years for a pre-meditated murder?

I'm missing something...

It all depends on which state you're in; in some states the penalty for first degree murder is max 25 years (with or without parole).

In other states it's 25 years to life or life with parole or life without parole. Or even death in capital cases.

It depends on the Judge too.

I'm speculating cuz I don't know the details but it appears she was offered a plea of second degree murder, 22.5 year sentence (with parole) so with good behavior she could be out in 10-15!

So she jumped on that, it's a good deal! For what she did.

And it saves the state time and money trying the case they may not even win! Depending on the jury...

To an outsider who hasn't heard all the facts and details, it may sound unfair but there's a lot we don't know.

Our system of jurisprudence isn't the best but sometimes we just have to trust the system.
