True story about another superhuman gurkha receiving the Victoria Cross:

On 12/13 May 1945 at Taungdaw, Burma [now Myanmar], Rifleman Lachhiman Gurung was manning the most forward post of his platoon which bore the brunt of an attack by at least 200 of the Japanese enemy. Twice he hurled back grenades which had fallen on his trench, but the third exploded in his right hand, blowing off his fingers, shattering his arm and severely wounding him in the face, body and right leg. His two comrades were also badly wounded but the rifleman, now alone and disregarding his wounds, loaded and fired his rifle with his left hand for four hours, calmly waiting for each attack which he met with fire at point blank range. Afterwards, when the casualties were counted, it is reported that there were 31 dead Japanese around his position which he had killed, with only one arm.[1]

Awesome.

It might have been different though, had the Japanese army issued more than 4-5 bullets to each soldier.

Japanese were bad ass, so were Germans. Why you think Japs and Germans kicked so much ass - they were smarter and more disciplined. Take Germany, that small nation, and take Japan, that small island, and compare it to the masses of land they kicked ass. It's amazing. However, the Gods of war weren't on their sides, ahem, bankers that financed both sides later abandoned one side.

War is a terrible man made catastrophe indeed. Rich create circumstances for war, poor fight it. Poor die, while rich invest and get richer. War is a *****. If there was a war tomorrow I'd leave for Jamaica and smoke weed and never come back.

Sure that guy is bad ass, but was it worth it. Same folks who financed that war are still in power, their children and grand children in power. Loose an arm for a piece of metal you could be proud of? Nah.

First Rambo movie was right on. Too bad they changed the ending, original ending included Rambo killing bunch of cops and dying himself. That's what war does. Rambo 2, 3, 4, 5 are examples of corporate hijacked scripts. You hear once in a while soldiers going rambo, in the news they call them psycho, reality is they probably found out the truth. Then there are stories like Pat Tilman's, friendly fire my ass.

Fvckin' guts!

Holy sh*t, this guy only died last year...

I often read stories like this and wonder how I would act in a similar situation. But the fact is, no one knows until it happens.

You can be as ****y as they make them, and then go to bits when things get tough. Often, it is the quiet guy who doesn't talk much who does best in a situation like this.

Relatives of mine fought against both the Germans and Japs in WW2. A great uncle lost his life in a bomber raid against a German target in late 1944. I am (based on my ancestry) 1/4 German, but they came to Aus in the late 1890s.

Personally, the Germans were much more dangerous for the world, but I would rather have fought against them.

The Japs were vicious enemies and cruel to prisoners. Unfortunately, most modern Japanese are not aware of this, since it has been swept under the carpet in their education system.

Time goes on, memories fade and remembrance of what cruel, sadistic and inhuman acts Jap soldiers did is gradually fading away.

I'm not saying the Nazis weren't bad, they were just as bad, except in a coldly efficient Germanic way.

The Japs resonates more for me since they directly threatened my homeland.

And I remember a story I read about how some Jap soldiers buried a bunch of Britisher prisoners alive after the surrender. That is evil.
