I was sitting here feeling sorry for myself again due to a recent string of rejections and the usual bull**** and began getting damn angry with myself. WTF am I whining about? Do real men complain about this? Do real men get down over not getting women?

I imagine all of us in our ancestry somewhere had a REAL man in out past. Some of us may be a REAL man. But think about it. Think about the guys who were heroes in the past. Think about the Greeks who died TO A MAN in Thermopylae, fighting a battle they knew they would lose. Think about the MEN who stormed the beach at Normandy. Think about the MEN in blood-filled trenches in WWI, the Brits who died at Paschendale.

Apaches with war paint on their faces....Vikings with swords drawn, slashing through flesh, blood flying everywhere...The Blue and the Grays lined up in front of each other, muskets firing and canonballs launching. The Napoleonic armies charging each other with bayonets and war cries. Medieval knights crushing skulls with flails and hacking through steel.

WE ARE MEN, damn it! Somewhere in our past each and every one of us has someone who faced fear and CHARGED. Make that guy proud! Make that guy look down (or up) from wherever he is and smile and say to himself "Yeah, that man has my blood running through his veins. Damn!"

I have an image in my mind of the Captain Morgan spiced rum guy. You know the pirate-looking type guy (no not a Johnny Depp girly pirate, but a REAL pirate) who has one foot up on a barrel and has this look in his eye like, "yeah. I am the Man." He has this glint in his eye and a ****y-ass grin and he looks like he just fvcked about 20 women in a row last night? That guy. Confident. Satisfied. ****y. Alpha.

I wanna be like that guy. And I want to make some hero ancestor that's looking down (or up) sadly upon me right now look at me with a different face. I wanna make that guy proud. I want to make myself proud.

WE ARE MEN! We are WARRIORS! We do not apologize for testosterone and we do not kneel before women. Reclaim masculinity! Feel fear and love every minute of it! Face life with courage, honor, integrity and dicipline! Damn, I am PROUD to be a Man!

Big talk, I know, but it's better than sitting here saying "oh sh!t, no one responds to my Myspace ad. I can't get a date, I can't do this, I can't do that. Boo-Hoo...."

Screw that!

one problem with that whole cute little story. i bet you still are in america/uk/canada/australia/western europe. do you think your ancestors would have remained in a place like middle america trying to be superdad/superhusband? would they have invested large sums in a new grill? would they be a slave to football and beer? would they try to please a rude middle-aged fat ankled woman? would they have invested most of their worth into a home in the suburbs? i doubt it.

no, you could probably have found your tough ancestors in a place like....MOLDOVA.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/from_our_own_correspondent/3729719.stm
A local proverb has it that "an unbeaten woman is like an unclean house." yeah, this is a pretty rough and tumble place. i have been to the area and can say that while ukraine has its beautiful places, moldova has nothing. lots of russian families remain from soviet days (russian families = russian girls), but we are talking west african living conditions in europe. in saying that, i found most of the people to be very friendly  if this area is too wimpy for you, i have another even more interesting place.

reason why i laugh at you don juaners. i could tell you a dozen large sized town where this is the norm. must be my suave western ways...but they all seem to love the sparkster.

unbelievable.

i mean, i know the spirit of your post, so please don't feel what im about to say is criticism against you or anything, BUT....

you idea of a REAL man is about as silly as a woman thinking that marilyn monroe is what a REAL woman is.

you're buying into 'images' of a real man. even historical images of the REAL men are often inaccurate. alexander the great, real man right? I suppose, but he had no interest in sex.

life is NOT as simple as an image or stereotype.

want to be a real man? i'll tell you the secret... follow your own path and never have self pity for your situation.

do that, and you'll become a REAL man. you may not fit the stereotypes, you may not get all the women, but you'll be REAL.

think sean connery is a real man? hits his wife. mel gibson a real man? wow, really cool getting pulled over drunk and spouting racial crap. the list goes on and on.

find your passion, follow your passion, and help whoever you can as you go through life, and meet life's challenges with a stoic sense of faith that everything that lands on your plate will make you stronger in the long run, then you'll be a real man.

admit to yourself your weakness and then commit to strengthening yourself so you no longer have them, that will make you a REAL man.

there are lots of things that will make you a real man, and almost all of them revolve around becoming a better person and having a positive impact on the world around you.

the pope never banged a chic in his life, but he was a REAL man - whether you agreed with him or not. Ghandi banged his wife i guess, so at least one chic, but he was a REAL man.

oh one other thing pertaining to our ancestors.

we all come from rapists and murders.

our ancestors (most of them) were animals.

pirates of the caribbean is NOT what pirates were like. they smelled like sh*t, raped women and murdered people.

although i will agree that there have been some amazing stoics in the past, some amazing philosophers and men of action who are the reason the world found its way through the darkness.

but anyone who thinks our ancestors, in general, were "real" men isn't dealing with reality.

grown men in the 1600's had the intelligence of a 12 year old today.

don't hold yourself up to a fantasy standard that NEVER existed.

but what has held true throughout all the ages is that the harder you work in life to BETTER your life will become. set goals and work towards them, and somehwere along the way you'll become a REAL man.

Ok. First of all, I don't know WTF sparky is talking about. And, secondly I think you guys are missing the point.

But I'm gonna take the high road here and just leave. Somebody always comes along and pisses on somebody who's pumped. It never fails.

Cheers!

no ones pissing on him. but come on dude. saying vikings have motivated you to become a REAL man is like saying that superman has motivated you to become a real man. heck, its worse than saying superman motivated you, at least you've probably watched the superman movie.

its great that he's pumped to change his situation. but this is the "mature" forum, and I think he'd be better off long term getting pump by realizing that he has the power to change his life without manufactured images of "real" men that in reality never existed.

Lighten up Joeker. Give some credit to your namesake for cryin' out loud. You take things very seriously don't you? Bit on the obtuse side as well I see. Hmmmm. Please reread what what I wrote. You honestly seem to have missed the entire point.

Better yet, don't reread it. There is a forest through those trees if you look hard enough, bro.

Now that sparky guy over there - he knows what he's talkin' about. I wanna party with that guy. What we need are more Moldovians here. Good place to visit but I wouldn't wanna live there.

Joekerr31,

Imagery and symbolism are very powerful elements of modern society. Many football teams have names like "Bucanneers," "Redskins," "Raiders," "Spartans," Vikings," "Marauders," "Patriots," etc.

And the guys in trenches in WWI or those brave men who stormed Normandy were animals? Huh? There is nothing wrong with looking at great deeds from the past and deriving courage from them.

And men from the 1600s had the same intelligence as men do today. Human intelligence and cranial capacity hasn't changed in the last 10,000 years. I'm sure men like Shakespeare, Da Vinci, Galileo, and many many other men from the past would like to talk to you about that.

I thought it was a cool post. I supposedly have an ancestor that fought with William Wallace in the battle to resist English occupation of Scotland in the 1300s. I am proud of my ancestral heritage, and reading his post was inspiring.

The meaning of a post like that is to inspire and allegorically "don't sweat the small stuff."

And yeah, I like that Captain MOrgan Spiced Rum guy too. :)

Manthem.

Current UK burger chain ad features such a male pride song. And there was a recent mobile phone ad (I think) that had an ever-increasing group of proud young men celebrating their masculinity. It's an interesting trend.

I glanced over some of this. In a nutshell:

Many men get bummed out over not getting women and getting rejected. It's how you react to this. Before sosuave, I was a master AFC and kicking myself for each and every rejection. I thought it was me. Was it? Sometimes. Other times it was the woman had a bf; other times the woman was a psycho, other times it was the woman didn't know how great I was :>) ... and other times I didn't present myself well.

None of those reasons were worth suicide or even worth more than being bummed out for a prolonged period of time. My favorite college football team is still bowl eligible, my music collection has improved the last week, my exercise routine is going well, and I still have great friends. My love life? It blows ... so be it.

Rule No. 1 for this board: You should read TWICE the amount of articles and Hall of Fame posts, and DJ Bible articles as you do messages on this board.

How you react to getting rejected is the key.

As for the history lessons on rapists, Pirates of the Carribean, blah, blah, blah ... I quickly read over that B.S. and moved on. The main issue here is pulling out a history lesson to justify things is diverting from the main topic and that's that you do not know how to live accordingly when the women aren't coming your way.

I agree with IM.

All you guys crapping on his post... wtf. To what end? He obviously wasn't saying, wow you know what's really cool about what pirates did... raping. Just like a glass is half empty to some, there are always going to be negatives about a person.. Woah, wait a second... you mean to tell me... no one is perfect? Go on!

Chivalry, honor, heroism etc. men USED to put significance on those traits. Traits more commonly associated with some of the "animals" you described.

It's safe to say if you have a hero, they have some sort of flaw, no matter who your hero is. What does it accomplish to focus on the negative properties of a hero?

I've seen these ads and I hate 'em. They are actually making fun of males. They show a bunch of idiot slob men walking around eating beef or something. This is in the same vein as the Al Bundy "No Ma'am" group from Married With Children. It's a joke toward men, and women are laughing AT them, not WITH them. These guys are acting like little boys and it is only making things worse for men in this country. what makes me even madder is who do you think are making these kind of TV shows and commercials? Men are.

No, I'm sick of seeing all the doofus, stupid, demasculated idiot men on TV. I saw one commercial the other day with a guy who was cleaning the toilet and calling his wife in her posh work office to ask if he was doing it right.:cuss:

This kinda BS has to stop. There are no great father figures, husbands, or male figures that I can really think of anymore in modern media.

Not that fighting and battles is all it takes to be a man either, but I understand the gist of IM's message: Courage, glory, honor, fortitude, bravery, and stoicism!

my point is that the typical middle american/western male is a giant lumpy p******. he isn't tough. he is sensitive and concerned what others think. he wants to be cool and well-liked. on the other hand, western (especially american) females are becoming more like men. look at all the soccer/softball playing girls in the usa. are you going to tell me that they remind one of girls? if they do you have some serious issues.

real guys don't want that. they want tall thin girls who dress in short skirts and wear lots of makeup. you find girls like that in places where the guys who seem to have money are a bit dangerous looking. go visit a town where most people are lucky to make $3000 a year and find the guys with shaved heads and no necks driving around in $50,000 suv's. i don't think they got those cars by kissing a$$ to older female co-workers and doing the weekend bbq circuit.

great post.....
it reminds me of one of my favorites quotes of all time is, a good friend of mine once told the following....."why are you afraid of women of women if they dont bite, they suck?
since then I dont see women as huge pitbulls who are ready to destroy me...I see them as grown up girls who want the candy that I posess.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

While I agree, what does that have to do with the topic?
