ehhhh.....can and can't work. In my book, there's nothing wrong with insinuating a chick is old. It depends on the chick I guess on how direct you can be about it. Next time try: "oh, I thought you were younger." Can seem like a compliment but in reality you're stating she may be too old for you....which now makes you a challenge.

But when it comes to the cougars then feel free, they know they're old so a young buck like you making light of it is actually a good thing.

I wouldn't risk it, most girls are very sensitive about their age. Some guys have that natural playful personality where the girl knows that you're kidding and you can pull this off. But most guys cant pull off a neg on the subject of age.
A better way to ask a girl for her age is "You look young, how old are you?"
