Alright, let's assume you get some STD from a girl. Not the annoying type, like gonorrhea, where you fight it off and then continue normally, but something more serious and transmissible.

To name a few: hepatitis, herpes, HIV.

What would you do next?
Would you still date? Casually or look for something more serious?
Tell about your condition upfront, before having sex? (With protection, of course)
What about flings?
You you have sex while hiding your condition?

Sure, the diseases mentioned above are different beasts, so the approach might differ.

Hate to get too grim here but I made a post a few years back when I thought I had contracted HIV. This was back when I lived in the Washington, D.C. area. The multiple tests I took came back negative but at the time I was fully planning on offing myself if I did indeed have it. Now? probably wouldn't do that if I did get something serious but that experience taught me to always wear condoms with any woman you bang who you aren't seeing exclusively. And if I did have a bad STD I couldn't live with myself if I had sex with someone without telling them. I'm just not that kind of person.

HIV is a death sentence. I have no idea what I would do. I can't even imagine. I obviously partake in risky behaviors with all the escorts I see. I am always super careful about condom use, and so are they. I usually bring Astroglide with me to make sure it's extra lubed to minimize chance of condom breaking.

HSV-2 would also suck, but not nearly as bad, but still would suck majorly.

Hep-C is rarely sexually transmitted. That's usually through cuts, bites, etc.

I would say that HIV would most likely be a *social* death sentence, but plenty of people who have it live full, long lasting lives.

There are dating sites for people with HIV, as far as I know. So it wouldn't be "no sex, ever", but rather "no sex with pretty girls you meet casually".

So yeah, social death sentence, as mentioned above.

Btw, hep C is curable nowadays. Hep B is transmissible (easier than hep C) and there's still no cure for it.

I believe I have a Hep B vaccine. I'm too old to get the Hep A vaccine.

Imagine a world with an HIV vaccine. Even if they invent it in my lifetime, I'll probably be too old for it to work.

Hep B: there's a vaccine to prevent it, but none to fix it.

I wonder how many of the promiscuous guys here have had this vaccine and had their immunity checked afterwards.

I was dating a woman who had herpes, but didn't disclose prior to sex. After we had sex several times, she told me she "may" have herpes. In fact, she did. I also tested positive for herpes. I tried to make it work, but it I was unable to get over the shock and betrayal. She refused to take anti-virals or anything else. I stayed with her for a five years. Each year, I was retested, and the results were negative. I got rid of her after five clean years of blood tests as well as the western blot. The docs said it was a false positive and it was a sigh of relief. I try to be as careful as possible and always use protection. It's a roll of the dice. However, if a person who knows they have an STD and doesn't disclose, that's just wrong on so many levels. It's one of the reasons why I do not trust women in relationships. I understand it is a risk, however, there is a huge difference if someone knowingly has sex without disclosing.

Hep-C is usually through needles and anal sex the docs told me. Don't do either.

God only knows what else they have. I thought they had a cure or vaccine for HIV. Truvada or something.

You can bring the HIV down to non-detectible levels. It's not as easily transmitted as HSV-2. I'm always worried of HSV-2.

You can't die from HIV if you get treated now.

So HIV is more a social trauma than a killing disease.

HPV and Herpes won't kill you but definitely make your sex life more "difficult"

Most STD are curable now, however recent medical research have shown that Chlamydia and Gornorrea have become more medical resistant (so it takes 2 pill now instead of 1)

Hepatite depends on what kind.

All STD are a headache, never had one but every casual partner or ONS always sent me to the Doctor for testing (I am a disease freak)

A lot of people with HIV or Herpes seek to date their own. Since its easier for them and for understable reasons.

In Canada, if your sexual partner has a STD with life altering potential (hepatite, HIV, Herpes) were no treatment will get you "normal" again... you can sue them and get monetary compensation.

So if your ONS or date give you an STD and she never told you about it (hiding it)... just SUE him or her and prove it. She/He will have to pay you something.

A few law cases exists in Canada where it happened

Oral herpes, aka herpes 1, can spread to the genitals. It doesn't turn into herpes 2 because they are two different strains but basically you can get coldsores on your genitals. Apparently, soap and warm water can kill the herpes 1 virus so wash wash up after oral sex.

For intercourse, a condom is simply the most common sense thing if you don't know her STD status, or your own for that matter. I said this in another thread before but if you don't know her that well and she doesn't want to use one or is ok with you not using one, then all the more reason to use one.

Incurable STDs, even if they are managed well with no symptoms, are a deal breaker for many people so it's not worth it to severely limit your dating options by not using protection.
