Everything you do is a fleeting moment. Every rejection. Every number. Every date. Every fvck. Every breakup. Every loss. Every win. Everything is a fleeting moment.
The feeling of rejection?
I can not remember it the last time I got rejected. I can not remember it the last failed number close. I can not remember it the last failed kiss close.
That feeling of rejection passes - rest assured, it does. Our mind allows us to get over the rejection rather quick, it's built into us. I promise you that girl you approach today NOT be in your memory a month from now. However, should you make something happen, the memory can last your entire lifetime.
YOU ARE THE WRITER OF YOUR OWN STORY.
I absolutely adored this girl Freshman year of high school. She didn't have the most gorgeous face, but there was something about her that I simply clicked with. I still get that feeling now, over 10 years later - even after living with a woman who I shared most of my adult years with. I never made a pass at her, I never tried....but I always wanted to. We became friends throughout high school. I remember her giving me a kiss during graduation. It was a good memory.
I look back now.
The things that could be different.
We talked during college. We talked during fights with my girlfriend. We could talk and talk. One day, we just stopped talking. I called her out of the blue, only to find her phone number disconnected. I didn't think much about it really, I had my career and wonderful woman to take care of.
Years later, I was able to come in contact with her again. This time, I took the risk, I made the move. Unfortunately, she was in a relationship. The look in her eye told me otherwise. She told her boyfriend about me and we would talk only when she was able to. They broke up. She was lost in a world without friends, severe depression and far too distant from home.
Nearly a year later, I ran into a woman who I was close to in high school. She told me that friend could not take it anymore and took the leap of faith. I died a little inside. We had an hour long conversation about her, to which point I almost was nearly in tears. She had tried to call me before she took that jump. She left multiple voice mails and texts. I never got them because it was on a employer phone number that I was no longer a part of. That feeling hurts to no degree. It kind hurts to type this out right now.
The conversation continues with my old high school friend, each sentence more painful than the last. Throughout high school, she had a crush on me. She wanted me to ask her out to prom, but I never did. She still went. It was with someone else, but she wanted me to be her date. That kiss on the cheek was her last attempt to tell me how she felt. I didn't do anything. I never did.
You can say I did the right thing by not pushing anything other than friendship. Friendships sometimes turn into relationships. I never understood it. I always imagined that I'd be that great guy and she would just tell me she wanted me.
I was that great guy.
She never told me.
She wanted to, but just couldn't.
It's very similar to going to a tombstone and pouring out your heart and soul. In my case, it was.
I look back on this now, with only thoughts and wonders.
What I could have done.
What it could have been.
If only I just acted.
