"So, What Do You Do for Fun?"

She asks it casually, mid-sip. And you feel the floor open up, because the honest answer is work, gym, and a couple shows you're half-watching.

Women rarely say this out loud, but a man with a life is attractive before he says a word. The guy who spent Saturday deep-sea fishing and came back with photos and a story — he walks in already interesting.

The "22 Rules" pushed me to build a life worth talking about. Turns out the fastest way to be interesting to women is to be interested in your own life first.

My friend is good to me. He tries to set me up with women he meets. He's married, older and very outgoing with a lot of connections, so he's a good resource. I don't like what happened this week though.

He met a woman at his gym. She's 28 and "hot" so he talked me up. He told me that she's interested in meeting new guys but wouldn't give her phone number to pass on to me. So he told her that I would come to the gym Wednesday night to meet her.

This means after work I would have to drive 15 miles to a gym where I do not have a membership to ask around for a woman by name because I don't know what she looks like. Then I would chat her up while she paces on a treadmill in her gym clothes so I can try to get the digits she wouldn't give my friend. I hate getting set up like this. I think I would look weak if this happened.

I told him I couldn't make it and that when I get her number we can meet for drinks sometime. Am I out of line? If it is to be believed, she is waiting for me to show up and introduce myself.

"She Made Her Decision Before You Finished Your Sentence"

Three seconds. That's how long it took. Your shoes. Your posture. The way you held your drink. Whether you looked at the floor or looked at her.

She already filed you away. Interesting. Boring. Safe. Bold. Before you even opened your mouth.

Everything you say after that is just her confirming what she already decided.

So stop rehearsing lines. Fix the first three seconds. Stand tall. Look up. Smile like you mean it. Walk like you belong wherever you're standing.

The words come later. The impression comes first.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with a chick wanting a man to make the first move, so to speak. My problem is when chicks want a man to always make 2 moves to their 1, OR when chicks don't reciprocate at all (the princess/entitlement syndrome).

But having said all that, I think you are right about approaching the girl in this way comes off as weak (and needy, and supplicating, AND desperate).

Maybe a better idea would be to either let your friend broker the meating by inviting her to lunch with you guys some time. Or, you COULD offer the chick your number, OR you could simply offer to meet her for a coffee date or something across the street from the gym.

These were just a few ideas that came to mind. But the bottom line is YES, I think you're right about NOT wanting to meet this chick by entering her arena HOPING she likes you enough to grant you an audience. LOL

You are too focused on individual chicks.

You are right, that setup is out of the question. You will look very needy if you show up there looking for her. Now if you just happened to bump into her that would be perfect. But that's not going to happen.

Forget this chick. They are a dime a dozen. So what if she's hot. She can meet guys on her own, she doesn't need your friend. She was just being nice to him.

You need to meet women on your own. In public. Forget this guy trying to set you up, it will never happen. And if for some reason it did the woman would most likely be crazy.

it seems like your instincts are right, you felt that the 15mile trip would be pointless, well it is. find a gym near you and learn how to fish lol

The fact that you are relying on other men to find you women makes your game VERY weak.

"You'll Never Feel READY to Walk Over"

Next Monday you'll feel more confident. After the gym you'll feel more confident. After one more drink you'll feel more confident. After you get a better haircut, a better jacket, a better job.

You've been "getting ready" for two years.

She's standing ten feet away right now. She'll be gone in four minutes. No amount of preparation will manufacture the courage that only comes from moving your feet.

Walk over. Stumble through the first sentence. Let it be clumsy. Let it be imperfect. You will feel more alive in those ten seconds than you have all month.

Go work out with your buddy. Meeting her is a pleasant side-effect. Don't just go up there to drool over some chick you heard about.

I'm trying to say this in the least derogatory way possible, but "get a life". :)
