Some personal issues came up early this week where my room mate who was about to sign a lease with me said due to financial issues that just came up, he can no longer move out. He told me to break my lease and find a replacement so we could move out and the day before he tells me he can't move, i find a replacement to move into my apartment and she just signed the lease. Since I don't have a room mate option, this put me in a bad position. I weighed out my options and decided to quit and move home and focus 100% on my startup for the next 6 months. If I fail, then i'll come back into the work force. That is one option.
My other option is Chicago. I was recruited by the Regional Sales manager in Chicago yesterday. He approached me a month ago but i told him I'd keep an open mind but i'd like to stay in New York. we were talking and he mentioned that option is always open. I told him if he was serious, i'd consider it. He came back to me later and said i'd keep my salary and he'd pay for all my moving expenses if i moved over. The chicago guys could apparently use someone with my drive and tenacity to pipe them up (chicago manager works from the NY sales office as he's wife is pregnant and he was just hired. He's moving to chicago next year). Cost of living is a lot less in Chicago so i could afford my own 1 bedroom in the city off my current salary.
I opted to move home and work on my startup until the end of the year. I've been structuring my entire career to position myself to run my own business so I'm going to do this now while i'm still young enough to bounce back and not have it result in a paycut. I have alot of support from stranger who hear what i'm trying to do, friends, and family. People want to invest and help (they have no clue how hard it is to start at company that needs to be scaled up in order to be successful). I don't think i would have moved for another 10k more honestly. New York is way better and it's not worth the headache i literally get for making 100 dials a day and not reaping the benefits myself.
My family owns a pretty popular club/private venue that hosts shows and famous artists in philadelphia. I'm currently in the process of hosting a fundraising show there. We plan to get 5-7 performers who would be willing to perform for free for marketing and to support my startup (it's a charity focused startup). The main performer we're trying to get on board is an Asian rapper with 6k followers on FB. My friends gf is also a professional violinist who plays with Han Zimmer and has performed on "The Tonight Show" and a few other local bands. Our venue is pretty popular so hopefully we'll get a good turn out of 500-1000 people.
