It occurs to me women only hear what they want to hear...can anyone confirm?

Anyway for example, this girl i've been seeing...about a month ago she gave me a certain compliment, i said thanks and that my female co-worker had said something similar too. Yet she rephrased what i said, except changed it to a male.

today, i was out again with her. I said, "you know i dont think this is going to work out, you should forget about me when i leave the country (a trip i have later this month)."
...Then i dont know what happened, it was abrupt, but she ended up changing the subject.

Some other times i talk on the phone with her similar things happen again...

This occurs to me that girls can be as bad or worse listeners than guys...and many times only hear what they want to hear (or end up twisting your words)...

Anyone with similar experiences that can confirm this?

Thats not solely a women characteristic, men do it to. Just look at all the people in cults and religious groups.

you're right everyone does it. I suppose it's a trait more closely associated with arrogance and/or denial.

But it seems this is more common among women who are eager to protect their ego.

Very astute. I've come to understand that the people that only hears what they want to hear are those that either fear or can't bring themselves to admit their shortcomings and weaknesses.

It's actually pretty natural for human beings to be adverse towards putting themselves down in front of others or admitting their faults.

It's kind of like how guy virgins would dislike conversations about sex while pleasure gods relish the opportunity to get into conversations about sex.

It's probably more prevalent with women because they are slighlty more sensitive than men.

If you understand the other person well and you know they're trying to compensate or trying to avoid, try confronting them. Sometimes it can be good for someone to be brought back to reality a little. But it all depends on whether you want the mood to be serious.

I once told my girlfriend that i slapped a girl's ass in a jocking way in a club. Some weeks later, my gf tells me "...well, u remember the time when u groped that girl's ass ? ..."

So yeah, i can relate. My gf changed the word "slapped" for "groped" to make my gesture seem worse than what it actually was, hence make me feel guilty.

first off i have to state that many, if not all of the reply's missed the problem here....

it's not that -WOMEN- hear what they want to hear...

it is natural for us to INTERPRET things in our own light -- and ignore the undesireable at times

however, from your quote I can see that you were not entirely clear...

it is VERY important to choose your words!!!

phrases like... "i think" and "you should" should be avoided... i understand that she dodged the topic.. but -- where are your nuts? you've gotta go to round 2, touch her and say it... say that its over.. -- also if you're gonna break it off you should give her a warning sign or two so she can prepare herself and be more attentive to the signs..

Yes. Everyone needs to face reality sometimes. And then there are those that just cant handle facing the facts of life, and end up living a lie. Its rather easy to fool yourself into thinking/believing something if you strongly believe in the false truth that which you create.
