This notion that living alone is so much cheaper than living with a girl is ridiculous. Ive done both, and if she works splitting all the expenses involved runnning a household is huge...............
If I were to live with a chick I would save over 1000 / month, easily.
It's not that living alone is cheaper, but it's generally cheaper being single. It's nice to have the dual incomes, but having kids is not a cheap undertaking. If you plan to never have kids or get married, you don't have to worry about buying diapers, feeding additional people, buying their clothes, you have cheaper health insurance, you don't have to get life insurance, you don't risk divorce and all the pains that go with that, you don't have to put aside money for education, you get to make every decision when it comes to finances, you can just take off and head wherever you want without being accountable to anyone, you have less stress in your life, etc. There are many financial advantages to living as an eternal bachelor.
My dad has a really good friend he grew up with who never got married, never had kids, etc. He currently works for himself, owns multiple vacation homes, and basically does whatever he wants. If he wants to go to the beach, he'll drive to his beach house provided it's not being rented at that particular time. If he wants to go skiing/be in the mountains, he'll just go to his vacation home in Colorado, provided it's not being rented. He'll also make stops in between to visit various friends he's made over the years. However he is able to afford this lifestyle due to working very hard just out of college and saving his income. He didn't do it by blowing his hard-earned money on condos in Miami, Corvettes, and vacations in Dubai, Canada, and Australia when he was young.
