Is the plot of the movie "Gone Girl" the ultimate shinola test?

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

I read that book on a recommendation from a friend, who generally likes the same books I like. It was well written, kept me interested, (sufficient scene changes at the right places, etc) BUT the overall "feeling" of the book was utter crap.

For a while I thought it was building up to something spectacular, then it fizzled into the most horrible ending imaginable.

The ending literally made me want to wash my mouth out with whiskey or something.

I've seen the movie as well, and as far as directing, acting, production value, etc, it's pretty high quality. It's the overall story that is horrible.

Absolutely NOBODY to root for.

Big picture: If the two characters would have communicated honestly with each other from beginning of the relationship, perhaps they wouldn't haven found themselves in such tragic circumstances.

He should have divorced her.
She should have divorced him.

I believe, as adults, whether you are a male or female...humans are products of their childhood environment.

I've met a few nutty guys in my life, as well as a few nutty ladies.

Using a movie like this to generalize women is weak.
