I agree with the premise behind your statement though. Too often it's MEN who try to make it "meaningful" and assuming the feminine role.

but also keep in mind WHY you think he was assuming this role. of course he didnt know better, but primarly because he "assumed" thats what she wanted. lost so far in the matrix to even realize that was the complete opposite.

Yup. He thought she was acting out of the ordinary because she wasn't acting like the girls on the sitcoms.
