He works out like 6/7 days a week. He alternates upper body and lower body and then does cardio after each workout. Me and him have been arguing about who will gain the most muscle the quickest. I say its me because i workout on a 3 day split: chest/tri, back/bi, legs, shoulders. He overwhelming thinks its him because he thinks i don't do enough. I did my reasearch though online and it looks as though he is wrong and I am right. help.

I only work out 2 or 3 days a week. I have gone from 165 at the beginning of summer to about 180 now. I haven't taken my body fat percentage, but just judging from looks, I'd say it's about the same. I don't know if tha'ts good or bad but I guess you could say I've been putting on about 5lbs of muscle a month. Not looking to be a body builder or anything, just want to be in good shape and have good form. People have been noticing and I can feel my tshirts getting more snug.

Oh and I'm using one of the workouts suggestion in the sticky in this forum although I usually add one more set to each excercise than they recommend. Working out 7 days a week is ridiculous. People like that don't realize that getting bulk comes from the the repair, not from the workout itself. Once you've broken the muscle down to a certain point, it's not necessary to push it any further. Now it's time to get some protein and relax it for a few days and let it repair. Your friend seems to be way overdoing it.

I know, and I all i want to was help him but he wanted no part in what i was trying to tell him.

Another thing. I do get a lot of cardio, but the cardio I get just comes from my lifestyle. My hobby is mtn biking and I also use my bike to run daily errands if it's within a couple miles distance just because I enjoy cycling. I also do martial arts 2 or 3 days a week which is very cardio intensive. I try to take the stairs in my apartment rather than the elevator. So rather than do gym cardio like a stair stepper or something, I'd rather just have it be part of my daily routine.

"You can lead a horse to water but you cant make him drink" really applies to these kinds of situations. People who are sure they are doing things right are very hard to convince with words to change. Imagine if someone said to you that training 7 times a week is better and you felt this was wrong because you have read on the internet that the right way to train is 3-4 times a week.

Maybe he feels the same, all the people who have given him tips have told him to workout 7 times a week. Then you come into this and tells him that he's wrong. Just let him be. Workout good and get big. Then when he realizes he isn't getting any bigger he might come to you for help.

Give him a few good links about training and maybe he can decide himself that he want to change his workout based on this.
