http://www.slate.com/blogs/xx_facto..._t_lead_to_better_dates_relationships_or.html

The online dating site OkCupid has instituted a feature that allows users to pay a monthly fee to filter out potential dates by body type (users select their own category, from choices like “skinny,” “curvy,” and “used up”) and their attractiveness level (as determined by the OkCupid hivemind).

<snip>

OkCupid is now simply capitalizing on a certain type of creeper.
And evidently, filtering out such fat ugly women makes it harder to get better dates! WTF?

What does offend me is that OkCupid is monetizing a service that is unlikely to bring its users closer to better dates, relationships, or sex.
My opinion of this essay: :down:

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

It's mostly to charge men, not women.

Height and income search criteria (which matter most to women) will remain free. Whether they are fat or not (which matters most to men) will require that you pay.
Men please give up online dating. Is not natural.

No it's not creepy at all. Remember, if they find you unacceptable, they won't hesitate a second to pass you up. You owe it to yourself to go for what you want.

As usual, the OP leaves out the context of the quote to get more replies to his trolly threads.

Does the site owner pay you, OP? I hope so. Otherwise you have far too much time on your hands. Here's the full quote:

"The filtration system itself doesn’t strike me as particularly offensive. (Then again, it’s hard to make online dating more offensive than it already is.) If a lady is only interested in “thin” men, she’ll scan the club for them when she’s dating offline, too. And if a dude is more interested in women with “a little extra,” he can use OkCupid’s filter to try to make that connection. Besides, OkCupid users have always been able to organize their matches by height, income, and ethnicity for free. Asian fetishists have long used the service to shoot off messages like “Konichiwa! You are beautiful, like a lotus flower” to their targets. OkCupid is now simply capitalizing on a certain type of creeper."

Nailed it. Just another way to extract more of that sweet sweet beta bux.

OkCupid’s "Fat" and "Ugly" Filter Won't Help You Meet Your Match
On a side note the article is incorrect. There's plenty of studies proving fatties suck at life so it actually will get you closer to a better match. Having said that if your looking for a "match" online the chances are high you've already failed regardless.
