Interesting article on matching theory

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

Of course, I can explain the shortage of available, appealing women - high fructose corn syrup.

I'm serious as hell right now. I've been trying to stay away from that junk for a while now. Did you know it's even in gatoraid?! I've dropped like 5 (steady) pounds since I stopped drinking anything with high fructose corn syrup in it. ANY drink with corn syrup in it I don't drink anymore.

I don't miss soda in the least. I use to drink it almost everyday.

Something in it causes your body not to gauge if you're full or not from a meal, so you just keep eating. Gross.

Gatorade (at least the original) was good back in the day when there was little knowledge about sports nutrition. There are cyclist who'd choose a can of warm, flat Coke over Gatorade for its value (the caffeine). There's not a lot of good that can come from sucrose, fructose or the like. Powerade is even worse, check the label.

There's other sportsdrinks out there that does a better job of incorporating things which actually helps an athlete more than hurts him. I think Gatorade is on their third generation sportsdrink now, I'm curious on whether they're going to get with the program.

Great article. However I don't think it outlines Social Matching so much as it does the Nice Guy / Jerk paradox. It's the dinner host question - women would like a man who's smart, dependable, socially intelligent, attentive, and stable yet they want a man who's also cavalier, masculine, a confident risk taker, a bad ass with the physical prowess to defend her, and reckless in such a way as to make her life exhilarating. Rarely do the two meet in the same guy. So she's forced into compromising and/or cheating on her LTR proactively (single mommies) or reactively (cheating spouse) in order to achieve a balance or the "ideal" mate.

Oh yeah, and the article...

I believe that there's an even smaller group of eligible bachelors who are single because they are even more selective. The author note another article on The Atlantic which caused an uproar because it's author said that women shouldn't be as picky when looking for a guy who fits their basic needs (typically support and the ability to impregnate them). Women went off the hook demanding that they deserve not to settle. The men who have latched onto this premise are the actual eligible bachelors in my opinion, they choose to be less available.

Exactly.

Nothing frightens women more than a Man who recognizes his own value. They are powerless when a Man realizes his own status as a commodity.

Man as a self actuated, valuable commodity... I like it. It would be worked into the purpose of the forum.
