About two weeks ago, I met a HB9 who began flirting with me soon after. Last week, someone in our social circle was going on about a new casual restaurant that received great reviews. After he left and it was only us, HB9 says she wants to try it out one day before work (different places, but late hours for us both). So we set up a time and a place, but:
FRIEND ZONE?: She wants to go with a small group (maybe 1-2 other people). The one girl friend of hers she insists having around is one we met only days before, who is a new mutual friend of us both. The other person would hypothetically be one of our other friends.
-If she was interested, why are other people involved? Even though one of my friends says this "buffer" is not uncommon, I say it's not a good sign.
INTERESTED?: This mutual friend wants to play matchmaker with the two of us. Well, at least that's what the friend has repeatedly told me. Additionally, the last time I ran into the mutual friend, she began hounding me to no end about whether I like HB9 or not. The friend also keeps bringing her up in all of our conversations, saying what a great girl HB9 is.
-The question is, does HB9 know about the friend's desire to play matchmaker? Would the friend do this even if HB9 wasn't interested? The fact the friend began pestering me about HB9 suggests there was a plan put in place.
A couple of nights ago, I stopped by a friend's party, HB9 happened to be there. We started playing party/beer games with the others, where I went into C+F overdrive, good-naturedly teasing and poking fun at her. I was stunned when she matched me taunt for taunt. It's clear that we're two very competitive people.
Because of our competitive drives, we played a few games and got home very late. However, she texted me the next day asking if it was ok to reschedule because our (lunch date) early in the day and we got home so late. Before I could even roll my eyes, she asked me what day/time would work. Within 2 minutes, we set up the (lunch date) and it was clear that she meant it. We bantered for a few minutes afterwards about our competitive spirits from the pervious night, with her initiating it.
FRIEND ZONE?: Technically, she flaked. And the mutual friend will still be going, but it was evident that she and I would be calling the shots.
INTERESTED?: She rescheduled with me immediately. Girls who aren't interested don't usually do that. As for the mutual friend, the friend asked me to bring a friend of my own so she doesn't feel like a 3rd wheel.
Any thoughts? Or will our lunch provide all the necessary answers?
