"I just moved here from Florida."

That sentence contains at least five follow-up questions she WANTS you to ask. Where in Florida? What brought you here? How long have you been in the area? What do you miss? How does it compare to here?

She handed them to you on a silver platter. And you said, "Oh cool. I come here every week. I love this band. Ummm... pretty crowded tonight."

She smiled politely. Nodded. And never texted you back.

I was that guy for years. Talking too much. Listening too little. Panicking about my next sentence while she was literally feeding me the answers.

Then I found 22 rules that fixed the whole thing. Rule number one: shut up and listen. She'll tell you exactly what to say.

I've been listening to Player Supreme's podcasts for a while and the thing that struck me the most is when he spoke of mind viruses.

I am pretty infected with this ****. I've rarely ever got words of encouragment from anyone, even my own family. In fact, I've gotten the opposite. And I guess over the years its taken a toll on me. I'm pretty messed up in the head right now. I try to control my thoughts but its a long never ending battle. And etc. for the rest of my sob story.

I'm considering making a tape of affirmations that I would like to burn into my head. Has anyone here done this before?

Anyone do anything like this and what should I do to try to fix myself? Any ideas on how to clear out the garbage inside the head?

"Why Women Dump the Guys Who Try the Hardest"

You paid for dinner. You drove. You said "whatever you want is fine" every single time. All the effort, no expectations.

And she left anyway — probably for a guy who makes her pick up the pizza.

Painful. Also predictable. Her mind quietly concludes that anything requiring zero effort from her is worth exactly zero. You became a free sample, and free samples get taken for granted.

The 22 Rules flip the dynamic. Small shifts that get her investing effort, money, and time in you — until SHE'S the one afraid of losing YOU.

Try this brucevangeorge. Realize that who you are and what you do are for your own pleasure and are not so that you can please others.

I realize it may be extremely difficult to rid one's self from seeking the affirmation of others. However, it is something that everyone should realize is a futile venture that will most often lead to disappointment.

So, how does one enjoy their lives when everyone around them seems to be putting them down and throwing negative comments their way? First, you have to take responsibility for your own predicament. It is not the fault of others when they deny you words of encouragement or put you down. Accept that they are entitled to treat you however they wish and that desiring them to treat you better is the result of you not being able to feel good about yourself without their help.

So, now you have to start thinking about whether you want to feel good about yourself on on your own, or whether you need others to give you affirmation for you to feel good about yourself. Do you want to be that kind of person that seems to always be fishing for compliments, assurance, confirmation and encouragement? Or do you really need it all to feel good about yourself?

The root of the issue here is your need for external affirmation. You 'need' it from the people around you. You 'need' it from a tape. You 'need' to hear it from someone, anyone. Along the way, you may get it and you may feel good about yourself. But remember that your happiness will always be dependant on these external devices and that you have basically placed your life's happiness in their hands.

“The 22 Rules That Flip the Script With Women… And How You Can Use Them Tonight”

Most guys accidentally kill attraction before they even speak. They assume they need a bigger bank account, a better physique, or smoother lines. They miss the point.

Female desire operates on a specific set of psychological triggers.  Break them, and you're invisible. Follow them, and you become magnetic.

I learned this the hard way. Years of freezing up. Getting friend-zoned. Watching other guys walk away with the girl I wanted. Then I discovered a set of 22 simple rules that rewired my entire approach.

Hmmm, an affirmation given to yourself isn't a compliment or an assurance given by an outside source. Granted they are a sort of cruch (forgive the spelling, two days without sleep) but they are a great start.

I will admit with the above poster though, you need to start to realise that your happiness is determined by you and you alone. The power others have over you and your happiness and well being is only as much as you give them. Realise the power you have. Realise where you want to be, who you want to be... and mainly right now, forget the whole being ****ed up. You aren't, your not broken or any of that bull that people love to say these days. Your just acting in ways that aren't helpful to where you want to be, and that can be changed a lot more easily than most would like to admit.

You know what to do, and i bet in one month you'll be well on your way to where you want to be.

Dude, are you actually expecting controlling your mind to be EASY? I forgot which ancient philosopher said it, but "a man's first and MOST DIFFICULT journey is to master himself." For all i know, you're doing GREAT! Hell, 98% of the population has never even CONSIDERED TRYING to control their thoughts!

Lmao, mans first difficult journey is mastering himself... nice. Yeah controlling your mind is hard, but nudging it in the right direction isn't. Influencing the direction of your thoughts isn't hard. We do it all the time with music... persistance is the key though to developing long term change. Usually it's 21 days before for a specific way of thinking or acting becomes standard. That's of course putting aside the influence of strong emotional associations...

And good old Krassus here is right with the comment that a lot of people have never considered changing or controlling their thoughts. THEY WERE NEVER TOLD THEY COULD! They were told that these things happen, to follow your heart, and so many other wise old cliches.

I won't lie and say mastering yourself is easy, it is a hard journey. But it's only hard because your not a one dimensional person with just one single thought and habbit. You have many thoughts and reactions that you will either want to change or streamline, that is why mastering yourself is hard and takes time.

True. But when you have negaive cycles going on inside the head you have to remove them.

Whenever I start doing something.. there's always these thoughts that say "better not" or "maybe I can't do it" or "what's the point?". They are not as strong as before but DAMN. At the worst times they throw me into doubt and fear.

And don't think that it is rational thought that makes you think twice before doing stupid things. It is subconcious. I always think before I do stuff. But these remnants of what people have said throughout my life just randomly pop up.

Like the other day: I was talking to this very attractive girl that I work with once in awhile. She was giving me pretty good signs of interests. But then I think "Maybe I'm not attractive enough.. she won't go for me" or "I'm fat". And it's all bull****. I USED to be fat and kinda weird looking when I was a kid. But I guess it affected me quite alot then and IT WON'T GO AWAY.

I had to stop talking to the HB because I knew that if I kept thinking that stuff around her that I would eventually act that way.

Get the idea of what I mean?

These were not my thoughts to begin with. They were passed down by people around me.

So I figure.. if they got in by repetition... why not get rid of them by repetition? Like an affirmation tape that I make? I made one that's a few minutes long and I'm just going to repeat it over and over on my iPOd. If I don't get sick of the blasted thing for being annoying... I hope it will work to an extent.

"She Wants a Man, Not a Boy"

You asked her if she wanted to grab coffee. Then you asked if the time worked. Then you asked if the place was okay. Then you asked if she'd prefer tea.

Four questions. Four chances for her to say no. Four signals that you're terrified of making a decision.

Plan it. Pick the place. Pick the time. Tell her where to meet you. She'll either show up or she won't.

Either way, you look like a man instead of a scared little boy.

You know, sometimes I wish I was and that I never realized that I could change. But then that's just another thought I want to remove forever.

Clearing the garbage or covering it up is easy. The difficult part is stopping the garbage from entering your mind at all. If you find the source where the garbage is coming from, you can prevent it from entering your mind.

Firstly, I ain't whining. I'm asking for advice. That's different. READ THE DIFFERENCE.

And yeah, I got more balls than you ever will... but that is not enough for me. I need to be the man. To be the greatest player ever. And this stuff is holding me back from my full potential. And I need to do whatever will work.. even if I need to reprogram my entire brain. I am not good enough as I am.

You should listen to the posts here. They may help you too. To be the best you can be.

So stop your whining you little pidgein boy and do something about it.

I am.

Are you?
