Thought I'd share with you guys this song I play every morning when I get ready for work or for college. It helped me get over my one-itis as the lyrics closely describe what I'm going through. Whenever I started feeling lonely again when I'd get bad results from a club, I'd pull myself together after listening to this song.

The song uses a sample by the Jackson 5. You might not like the song but at least appreciate the lyrics or give it a listen:

Will I Am - Fantastic
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Urp0OmTqpVo

[Chorus: will.i.am]
I'm alright, I'm alright, I'm alright, I'm fantastic {*repeat 2X*}
I'm al...

[will.i.am]
Nine years of lovin you, that's now flushed down the drain
Six years with a bundle of joy, the last two was the pain
Too immature to handle love, we was just playin GAMES~!
You used to say I was your everything, now you can't say my name
I never thought that I could survive, without you in my life
If you was wonderin about how I'm doin, baby I'm doin alright
But it don't even look like you would cry, if I was to up and die
Die tomorrow, uh-huh-uhhh, but that's alright gi-irrrl, cause

[Chorus]

[will.i.am - over Chorus]
Don't even worry 'bout me {*2X*}
I'm doin good now, doin super baby
Don't even worry 'bout me, I'm super duper baby
I'm doin good now, yeah

[will.i.am]
Six months and a couple of weeks and not one call from you girl
Three months after we broke down, I moved up in the world
I wanna know what's goin on, what's goin on in your life
I know it's really hard to be my friend, when you were gon' be my wife
We used to love our relationship, but now we just can't relate
I understand why you had to go and change your, love for me into hate
And that's why I believe you wouldn't cry, if I was to up and die
Die tomorrow, uh-huh-uhhh, but that's alright gi-irrrl, cause

[Chorus]

[will.i.am - over Chorus]
Don't even worry 'bout me {*2X*}
I'm doin good now, super duper baby
I'm doin good now, I'm fantastic
Fantastic, yeah

Fan-ta-stic...
Fan-ta-stic...

Fan-ta-stic {*14X to end*}

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

I don't understand how this song is supposed to help you get over a one itis. Will I Am doesn't write from the perspective of a guy who's over his ex. He writes from the perspective of a guy who has resigned himself to understanding that the relationship is over (that she hates him, even), but not from the perspective of a guy who's moved on. He's in that really sad stage where it's all over, but you haven't put the pieces back together and move forward. He talks about how he wants to be friends, but she wouldn't even care if he died. You can't pretend you're even remotely over a girl if you know she has that low of a regard for you, yet you still want to work out a friendship. That's pretty much the opposite of moving on.

In the chorus he talks about how he's "alright." "Super duper," even. But I don't know if we're supposed to believe him. If it was true that he was doing "fantastic," then there'd be no reason for him to still be thinking about this girl and writing a song to her. If he was "fantastic" then instead of just chronicling how bad things have been in the verses, he'd give more concrete examples of how and why he's doing so well (beyond the vague line about how three months after the break up he moved up in the world, which likely has nothing to do with moving on from the relationship). But maybe we're supposed to ignore all this and believe that he's telling the truth in the chorus when he tries to tell her he's "fantastic." Maybe we're just supposed to take his word for it.

So I just don't understand how a guy in the darkest part of post break-up (the part where there's no hope of making things better, but you haven't even begun to move on) is supposed to help you get over a one itis? I mean, whatever works for you you might as well keep with it, but I just don't understand WHY this song helps you out so much you play it every morning.

i see how you can interpret the lyrics that way but i interpret them this way

The song is about him being going through a tough break-up, and he was heartbroken but now he's 'moved up in the world'

Six months and a couple of weeks and not one call from you girl
Three months after we broke down, I moved up in the world

So now that he's over her and he's improved himself, he goes back to see how she's doin' but she finds it hard to talk to him just as friends since they were in such a deep relationship. She even hates that he's changed.

So he acknowledges that she no longer wants to care for him, but it's ok because he's alright and he's fantastic...

And btw this song is for people who are post-oneitis. that is, this is a song to celebrate finding a 2nd life after they thought their world was over when they broke up
