I hold a certificate from a major university in Criminal Profiling. Pedophilia is one of five crimes which is qualified for profiling and I once took a class entirely devoted to Sex Offenders. With those credentials out of the way, no, pedophiles are not born.
First, let me explain that there are four components for all sexual acts done by every single person on earth: fantasy, symbolism, ritualism, and compulsion. Aside from social constructionism, the difference with the sex offender is that this process takes control of their life. They continually and gradually need to up the sexual ante in order to become sexually aroused. They often begin with relatively innocuous behavior such as voyeurism (e.g. peeping tom), exhibitionism (e.g. flashing), or crotch sniffing—yes, there are guys who actually bend down on all fours and sniff the crotches of unsuspecting women—but eventually they need more stimulation and move onto more serious behaviors. For instance, a sex offender may start out with exhibitonism, then turn towards enemas, then turn towards shoving golf tees up into their Johnny—I have seen the X-rays, then turn towards auterotic asphyxiation, and then die. I forget the exact statistics, but most sex offenders are found to engage in four or more paraphilias simulatenously.
Moving onto the pedophile, there are five types of pedophilia: fixated, regressed, situational, mysoped, and one other type which I forget. (Sorry, I am too lazy right now to look into my books and explain each type.)
With notable exception of the mysoped, pedophiles don’t intend to injure children, rather viewing themselve as a father figure (who just so happens to fvck children). It is these guys who have twisted thinking and swear that it was the child who came onto him. With the situational pedophile, their pedophilia happens only under the right circumstances. I am reminded of a case of a 40-year old Boy Scout leader who engaged in pedophilia after being devasted by finding out his wife planned to divorce him, if I recall correctly. During this devastation, he went to a Boy Scout camping event and when at night a boy came into his tent to sleep, the man decided to go to town. It was his first act of pedophilia. In regards to mysopeds, these intend to hurt children and whenever you hear an Amber Alert of an abducted child, it is always a mysoped since mysopeds are the only ones who will kidnap children. To put the mysoped into perspective, Wesley Dodd, who started out with simple exhibitionism, molested approximately 100 boys before kidnapping and murdering three boys. (There is a strong correlation with sex offenders and serial murderers, by the way.) Most interestingly, he would help boys in trouble, such as those who had fallen off a bicycle, and in his jailhouse interviews he said it puzzled him how he would inflict so harm to children who he otherwise loved so much.
Most remarkably, pedophilic men who have sex with boys are not gay. They have sex with their wives and associate themselves with heterosexuality. They would never dare to have sex with men but young boys turn them on.

In its rawest form we can get hard-ons just by looking at hot woman and we don't conciously 'create' them , they just happen, its a chemical response to what we see.

Part of it is environmental stimuli, but the other part is genetic, that is, the particular way the person reacts to that stimuli.
I really don't see why someone would "choose" to be gay in a society that is still largely homophobic.
Pedophiles don't ONLY prey on children because of their purity. What about the fact that it allows them to exhibit a sort of dominance over something, thus satisfying a primitive male urge that is not being satisfied in their life? But regardless, all of the "reasons" why a pedophile desires young children are odd sexual behaviours that must have stemmed from previous (probably childhood) trauma.

A Few Questions About Mysopeds...
1. Does the Mysoped typically target a paticular age, sex, race, hair, build, or physical type of child? Or will just ANY child do for a target?
2. I have read elsewhere that Mysopeds generally prefer blitz attacks and forcible abductions over any more subtle means of capture; but I am wondering if there might not be exceptions. Just as certain serial killers (Ted Bundy was an example) may use such ploys as faking physical infirmity to lure women into assisting and going with them (Bundy wore a fake cast on his arm), might not certain Mysopeds prefer to lure, to seduce, or to trick their target child into their control, relishing this as part of "the hunt" or "reeling in the prey"? It certainly is a sadistic mindset that I can very easily conceive of in such a person...

There's been plenty of studies done on homosexual men, women and straight men, and the consensus is that homosexual men have a specific part of the brain located in the hypothalamus that is very similar to women. Straight men have the regular structure, and there have been cases of this part of the brain being damaged for whatever reason (surgery and etc.) where the straight man has turned gay. So in conclusion: Homosexuality is a choice and it isn't. First you have to define what is homosexuality. Behaviour, or simply that inner desire. Straight men can engage in homosexual behaviour, and homosexual men can engage in straight behaviour. So which makes you gay?
