I think she hides it through unreasonable homophobia. How does someone that claims to be liberal be anti gay and attend a religious christian university? She says she always skips chapel and doesn't like the people there, but she won't leave. She comes from a close knit conservative family her dream is to pretty much mirror them. I think is forces her in her mind to reject her lesbian sexual thoughts. Hence she does not want to be a lesbian.

I know this is a dpressing idea, but have you considered that she may have been the victim of sexual assault? Some girls react very negatively towards sexual contact in those instances. I'm no expert, just figured I'd put it out there because I dated a girl in that position several years back.
