I've always slept a lot, but its just recently I've started to think I might have a problem, so I'm hoping somebody here knows more about sleeping disorders than I do.
I have trouble waking up unless I really have to. For example, if I have school in the morning I can wake up in time, but if I want to go to the gym in the morning I just can't bring myself to do it.
I also sleep in school. I'm in highschool, and my day is comprised of 7 periods, 2 being study halls, the rest being classes. I generally sleep through both study halls and 3 of my classes. It isn't like the material is too eary and boring for me either, as I sleep through my AP Calculus class daily. I always assumed this was because I only get between 5 and 6 hours of sleep every night, but recently friends with similar sleeping habits tell me that they can't even sleep in class if they try. Also, a teacher of mine suggested that I see a doctor about how much I sleep. I also use 2 alarms on school days to make sure that I wake up on time.
I even sleep through my classes if I get extra (8-10 hours) sleep the night before.
On weekends if I don't set my alarm I get 12-15 hours of sleep. I used to assume this was because of only getting 5-6 hours of sleep on school nights and that my body was trying to make up for it, but last summer I slept a minimum of 10 hours a night and would still sleep through the majority of the day unless I used my alarm.
I remember people saying that you should be able to wake up on time without an alarm clock, but that seems like a ridiculous concept to me.
I'm not sure if I have a problem or if Im just lazy and undisciplined...
I'm sorry about the lengthiness of this post, but I'm trying to be as specific and detailed as possible so that my problem can be better diagnosed.
