"The Coffee Shop Girl You Never Spoke To"

You've replayed it a hundred times. She stood three feet away, scrolling her phone. You had an opening. You composed the perfect line — after she was gone.

For all you know, she's married now. To some guy who said something. Anything.

Openers are cheap. Almost any sentence works when it's delivered within three seconds. The expensive part is the standing there, drafting and deleting, while the window quietly closes.

The "22 Rules" stripped out my hesitation. What to open with, how to keep it alive, and the one habit that costs guys more women than anything else: waiting for perfect.

Because of being very, very shy and bashful(and having a social anxiety problem)...I'm in my early 20's and have never been on a date, never had a girlfriend, nothing. I've kissed girls when I was little, but that's just little kid stuff. I don't want this to sound like a whining post where I just feel sorry for myself, I really want help.

To put it mildly, I obviously have no clue whatsoever how to ask a girl out, what to do on dates, where to go, what to say, what to wear, nothing. I'm completely and utterly clueless when it comes to dating and relationships. I see girls look in my direction, but I just have this feeling like I have nothing to offer them. What would I say? What would we do if we were in a relationship? I'd probably just embarrass myself because I'm so awkward in social situations.

What do you guys I should do? I'm completely lost here. I want to get over my shyness so I can actually be normal and live a normal, social life. Is there a good book that explains the essential things of dating? I've heard about a book called "Without Embarrassment" and "How to be an Alpha Male" by John Alexander that are suppose to be really good. I know it's stupid to have to read a book to try and be normal and actually get a girlfriend, but I have no clue what else to do.

Any advice?

"You'll Never Feel READY to Walk Over"

Next Monday you'll feel more confident. After the gym you'll feel more confident. After one more drink you'll feel more confident. After you get a better haircut, a better jacket, a better job.

You've been "getting ready" for two years.

She's standing ten feet away right now. She'll be gone in four minutes. No amount of preparation will manufacture the courage that only comes from moving your feet.

Walk over. Stumble through the first sentence. Let it be clumsy. Let it be imperfect. You will feel more alive in those ten seconds than you have all month.

Step 1: Forget about girls
Step 2: Find your interests and focus on them.

Then you'll have something to offer, and confidence soars.

Read the DJ bible - it is free. The link is at the bottom of every sosuave page

Well you can read the DJ bible link at the bottom of the page, and complete the boot camp, or if your feeling up for it make you own plan like i'm doing in my quest, currently i am making myself more open and improving my body and concentrating on my hobbies, and very soon i shall be pro active with women. Its about having fun my friend and not to be a gimp who relies on a girl to live.

Will the DJ bible explain the very basics of dating? I'm not exaggerating when I say I have absolutely ZERO clue what to say to girls, how to date, how to be a good boyfriend in a relationship...nothing.

"Why Women Dump the Guys Who Try the Hardest"

You paid for dinner. You drove. You said "whatever you want is fine" every single time. All the effort, no expectations.

And she left anyway — probably for a guy who makes her pick up the pizza.

Painful. Also predictable. Her mind quietly concludes that anything requiring zero effort from her is worth exactly zero. You became a free sample, and free samples get taken for granted.

The 22 Rules flip the dynamic. Small shifts that get her investing effort, money, and time in you — until SHE'S the one afraid of losing YOU.

DJ Bible will help. It says to get get plates going, plant seeds. What that means is to not focus on just 1 girl, and to go talk to many girls so you won't get oneitis, and you will have a better chance of getting a girl if you talk to alot of girls. Walk up to a girl, make eye contact, make a comment or question, start talking, if you feel a connection, try to get her number before you leave. Call her up, invite her on a date. It's not rocket science. Or, go the Gunwitch route, and try to get her on a date the moment you meet her. A date can be anything really. A movie at home, going somewhere, anything.

Ok, to the people that say to forget about women and concentrate on your life... that would only really apply to someone that hasn't been laid in a really long time despite constantly thinking about how much he needs to get laid...

No wonder so many guys here end up being keyboard jockeys... you wanna sit and talk about women and call it self-improvement... the only self-improvement you need : a haircut, a job that you're not ashamed of, and a set of clothes that you're comfortable in.

I've got a girls number during a lunch break while I was covered in black dust from the jobsite, wearing a pair of coveralls, a high visibility vest and a hard hat...

This guy needs to work on his social skills, not hide from them. You don't get social skills from reading a book either, in case you're wondering.

Have you seen a professional about the social anxiety? I know that's an expensive route, but it can be very helpful.

Besides that, you just have to start with small successes and gain momentum. Find people who share the same interests as you (at work, school or whatever - join things) and practise your conversational skills with them.

I agree, it is incredibly intimidating at first, but the number of people who are really out to get you is so low that you have nothing to fear!

While this site does have a ton of useful information, it does have a way of making things seem MUCH more complicated then they really are in the real world, especially to someone new to the game. It can be overwhelming with all the advice given here and in the DJ Bible. Try to keep things in perspective. Make an inventory of your strong points and what you need to improve on. Don't try to tackle everything at once, as long as you are committed, things will begin fall into place.

Good luck.

"She Wants a Man, Not a Boy"

You asked her if she wanted to grab coffee. Then you asked if the time worked. Then you asked if the place was okay. Then you asked if she'd prefer tea.

Four questions. Four chances for her to say no. Four signals that you're terrified of making a decision.

Plan it. Pick the place. Pick the time. Tell her where to meet you. She'll either show up or she won't.

Either way, you look like a man instead of a scared little boy.

I really should get some professional help for my social anxiety. But I hear it could take years to see improvement...if you see any at all...by going to a therapist. And medication I heard kills your sex drive...even though I'm not using my sex drive. I don't know what to do. Social anxiety disorder doesn't magically go away if you try to talk to one girl or stranger a day. It doesn't work like that.

I don't have Adobe Reader or a PDF file reader...is the bible available in html format? This is only thing I found in HTML format. Is this the "bible"?

I just find it hard to believe there's a way to start dating, start being sexually active, etc. in your early 20's and not look like a complete dork and loser. That's what terrifies me. Even the most simple thing like kissing that kids are doing in middle school I'm completely clueless about. A 12 year old has more experience than I do.

That's because you put the opinions of other people above your own.
The first thing, is to be commited to change. It may take awhile but if you are serious about acting in a different way, change will occur.

I was like you, lost most of my 20s to shyness and insecurity. I knew what social anxiety was, but I had no clue as to seduction, what makes women tick, none of that stuff. You've got instant access to so much info, good info. Read and learn. Get excited about learning something new.

It's already been mentioned, but when you are so consumed with thinking about girls, the absolute best thing you can do is immerse yourself in your passions. If you have a hobby that really turns you on, just excel at it. Be the best you can be at whatever that is. The confidence you get will spill over into other areas of your life, and more importantly, it will GET YOUR MIND OFF GIRLS because you'll be too busy having fun.

You HAVE to have something in your life that is MORE IMPORTANT than women. If it were me, I wouldn't think too much about them right now. I would focus more on feeling great about yourself being alone. Hobbies, passions, etc. The spend some time around strangers, get in the habit of making eye-contact and just saying hello. To everyone, not just girls. Expand that comfort zone.

The women will come. But they won't come until you can be cool with who you are, right now. After a while, this will make sense to you.

Hey, don't worry about looking like a dork or loser, that ship has already sailed. Just go through the WORK of listening to these fine gents here and you'll be fine.

"She's Out of Your League"

You've said it a hundred times. Maybe a thousand. And every time you say it, you train your brain to freeze the next time she walks into the room.

Leagues are a myth invented by guys who are scared of women.

She's a person. She has bad breath in the morning. She picks songs she can't sing in the shower. She overthinks her own texts.

Walk over. Say something. The league dissolves the second you open your mouth.

You were never the problem. This is no problem in general. Personally dont ever feel like you gotta make some 180 degree turn...cuz its probably not the case. Youre probably not super nice....and you probably arent fugly(and if you were it wouldnt be such a big problem) Most all my friends have girlfriends, have children, or both. I am the only guy in my circle that doesnt have a girlfriend or is seeing any anybody currently...which its not really a problem anymore. Its never the fact how many girls a guy is seeing currently...cuz that could all go to **** (specially if they were all sluts)

Are you a person wanting quality...or does it really matter as long as youre banging girls or seeing someone? I wanna know your take. Being only 21 myself...I still got a lot of other **** to think about while my friends have kids to take care of (with girls that arent that bright). Ive been thinking about school and stuff. I mean...ya can always meet more chicks in college man.

Also...getting a job where you have to communicate a lot helped me alot with shyness. Busy places (busy fast food places, restaurants, DJing, bartending, the military...I spent a year in Iraq. etc.) I have also made quite a few friends from these kind of jobs. Im working at a Burger King on campus right now before I start my classes start this fall.

You know this wont guarantee you a girlfriend....its whatever you decide to settle for. Im sure I could have five *****es right now...but do I want 20 STD's along with it? Do I want kids with some chick that wasnt worth my time and a hell of a headache? Use common sense or end up like some people I know with kids and only 19 and 20 and got a dead end job who were (big game players) Ill be happy when you get laid and all...but responsibility is something to always think about. In the end...think about who youre ****ing, or it may come back to you like it has to far many people that have ever joined this site.

It's unbelievable how hard it is to overcome shyness. How do I know? Because I've been there. I spent YEARS trying to get past it, but at the end of the day I was still so awkward in social situations.

Then one day, I had a realization. What I realized was that EVERYBODY is insecure. Even the jerk who's loud mouthed and babbling in your classroom or that hot girl you look at and think is soooo perfect.

Go outside and look around at the people you see. They aren't that different from you. They are people just like you. They eat and sleep like you. They have needs like you. They cry and are scared like you. The world, especially America, is like a great facade. A great stage where all the actors come together and put on their best faces for the public. But, when they are home alone with their thoughts. When nobody is watching, people are SCARED!

This realization helped me because it took people off their pedastool, which is the EXACT first step towards overcoming shyness. You can't even BEGIN to overcome your anxiety until you start taking people off their pedastool and humanize them. You see, in your mind, these people are really huge and you are like this little midget. In your mind you feel like the entire world has their eyes on you and they are watching you. In your mind, you have to be PERFECT before you can fit it.

AND THAT JUST SIMPLY IS NOT TRUE!

Try it. Go out to the mall and find a bench to sit on and watch the people go by. Pay special attention to how many people actually LOOK at you, and then make a special note of anybody he actually looks long enough to make eye contact with you. That number is going to be VERY small. Most people are so preoccupied with themselves that they simply don't have TIME to pay attention to you!

Realizing this is huge to you, because it levels the playing field.

The next step is realizing that you are the way you are because of what some have called it "toxic shame". For this, I have some suggested reading material for you: "Healing the Shame that Binds You" by John Bradshaw. Take the tips offered in the book, and start applying them to your life. While I'm on the subject of reading material for you, let me give you a list of books that you should read:

"Healing the Shame that Binds You" by John Bradshaw (as I mentioned)
"How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carenegie
"Awaken the Giant Within" by Anthony Robbins
The Book of Pook (here on this website--go down to the bottom of this page and click on the "DJ Bible" and it's in there--and it's freeJ)
"The Art of Talking to Anyone" by Rosalie Maggio
"How to Talk to Anyone" by Leil Lowndes

That's a VERY condensed list of the books I've read, but they are the absolute BEST I've found and offer MASSIVE amounts of good, solid advice for you.

Now that you've got a good base of knowlege about a RANGE of problems that are bothering you, you MUST imediately start taking action. For, what good is knowledge if you don't act on it? It's useless. But don't worry, you're not running a sprint here, you are running a marathon. What I mean by that is that you aren't going to change overnight. You're going to be at this for a LONG time (if I had to put a time to it, I'd say you'll spend a good 18 months to a year overcoming this--BUT DON'T GET DISCOURAGED!). You don't have to rush into this. You're only going to get discouraged if you try to just change overnight. But if you set attainable goals, and take baby steps, and then slowly raise the bar you will meet with far greater success.

With all that being said, let me make a list of things that I suggest you do and the direction you should probably start off in:

1. Not only ADMITTING you have a problem, but making a list of goals you want to acheive to fix that problem. List ALL the things you want to accomplish in your life. What job you want, what kind of girl you want, where you want to live, what you want to do with your free time, etc. And then you make sublists underneath of each of those of all the solutions you can possibly think of. The more you start brainstorming, the more your mind will start working to form a solution.

2. Next, you've got to GET OUT. Get out of your house and PUT YOURSELF in social situations. Trust me, this is going to be painful for you, because it's COMFORTABLE for you to stay at home by yourself. You KNOW you aren't going to get rejected. You KNOW you aren't going to be judged. You also know that you are going to have the pain of being lonely, but in your mind you've justified that that pain is less than the pain of putting yourself out there. REMOVE THAT NEGATIVE THOUGHT RIGHT NOW!

3. Next, you want to start with something simple. Take a solid week of just getting out of your house (even if it's just going and walking around the mall or the store for several hours--key word "several!"). After than, you want to spend some time getting comfortable with yourself. Pay attention to the way you talk, the way you walk, the way you stand, etc. Go to a social place, and RELAX your body. Focus entirely on RELAXING yourself in this public place. Watch your breathing patterns and slow them down. Relax your stiffness, hold your head up straigth and stand up straight (don't slouch). Get comfortable doing that. Comn! This is the easy part! Spend a week of constantly doing that, and then raise the bar again! Now, you are going to go to a public place and SEARCH, yes SEARCH, for people's eyes. You're not going to talk to them, you are going to simply make eye contact and hold it for as LONG as you can. Push yourself to do this because this is the foundation of everything else you can do! Eye contact is amazingly hard to accomplish for shy people because eye contact is a sign of confidence, and you don't have that. But you are going to put it in there! Spend as much time as you NEED doing this. Do it until you can hold eye contact with someone until THEY turn their eyes away from you. Then, move on to the next step. Greeting them! Nothing more, nothing less. Just a simple "Hi!" or "Hey!" or "how you doing?". You are not going to engage them in conversation, you are simply going to make eye contact and then say hi. Comn, now, think about it! What could POSSIBLY go wrong with that? There is no risk to that whatsoever! There is literally no rejection here. You are simply exercising a social muscle and building a base of confidence in yourself. You're simply pushing yourself to do a little more until you can at least get comfortable with making eye contact and greeting EVERYBODY that you meet. Trust me, my friend, this is HUGE. If you can get yourself to this point, then man, you've just instilled a sense of confidence in yourself. You've won a major battle!

3. After this, though, you are going to start putting yourself on the line a little bit. Not only are you going to make eye contact and greet people, you are now going to start a conversation with strangers. Don't worry, by the time you do all the other stuff I have mentioned so far, this won't seem as intimidating as it does to you right now. Believe that. The interesting thing about conversation is that it really isn't as hard as it seems to you, the shy person. In a lot of ways, it's just a game. I like to use Tennis as an example. Conversation is like tennis in that you and the person you are talking to is "lobbing" information back and forth to each other, just like tennis players hitting balls back and forth. The key is to realize that if you "catch" the ball, and hold it, the conversation dies, just like the game stops in tennis when you hold the ball. Examples of catching the ball include things like just saying "yeah" or "uh huh" or even just laughing nervously or being totally silent. Examples of lobbing the serve back across the net would be like someone asking how you are doing and instead of saying "fine" you say "I'm good, how are you?" See? By asking a QUESTION you are returning their serve.

Now the key to this is, that you are going to a set a goal for yourself. Something small for you. You are going to designate 3 nights a week at first, and in that night you have to approach ONE person (guy or girl it doesn't matter at this point) that you DON'T know and try to initiate a conversation wtih them. Just one person. That's like 15 minutes of pain each approach. It's not that bad. But it's forcing you to do something that is paralyzing to you.

After all of that, and if you are still going at this point, THEN AND ONLY THEN are you ready to start going after girls. See, if you don't build natural social skills then you are going to have an EXTREMELY hard time with women. But by forcing yourself to take these steps, you've built in yourself a base of confidence and you've also got some experiences to fall back on.

I also suggest getting active. Nothing helps you more than action. Join a gym. Start exercising and eating right. Start biking, hiking, canoeoing, rock climbing, skydiving. fishing, hunting, whatever! The sky is the limit. Swimming, skiing, etc. It's all out there, but make yourself get active. Start playing a sport. Join some local community clubs. Hook up with a charity. Hell, join a support group. You may think this is silly, but you could try an AA meeting or two and try to apply their 12 step programs to your situation.

Anyways, that's my crash course on building confidence and overcoming shyness. It's also a way to make new frienlds, get healthy, and get your life in order. When you fix the inside, I'm telling you, the outside will come natural. The girls will follow. When you build your own world, you'll have girls around you that want you, and you can bring them into that world.

Understand? It's a lot to digest, but take it to heart. You'll understand why I said it'll probably take a couple of years to get through all of this, but I promise you that if you drive yourself to do a little bit more each day, you WILL get the results you want. I promise.

If youre wonderin about sex ever...you can always read books about it to get a first view (know where the ****oris is and how to drive a girl wild with it. Of course it does take practice man. Seriously...it does, but once you get it with one girl there are just a few differences with each girl.) It can be your ace in the bag. Lots of girls like **** stimulation more than sex...so practice, learn what they like, and be gentle with them.)

"She Liked You in March. It's October Now."

Attraction runs on a clock.

She flirted for weeks. Touched your arm. Found reasons to be alone with you. And you were careful. Respectful. Waiting for the right moment.

The moment had a shelf life. It expired around month two, and by the time you asked her out, she'd quietly filed you under "little brother."

One of the hardest lessons inside the 22 Rules: women rarely wait. Interest either grows or it decays, and nothing decays it faster than a man who never moves.

Make the move while she's still inventing reasons to be near you.
