Why "Whatever You Want" Keeps You Single

She says the movie looks dumb; you suddenly agree. She tests you with a little attitude; you apologize for nothing.

You think you're being easy to get along with. She reads something else entirely: a man with no edges. Nothing to hold on to. No friction, no tension, no reason to wonder what he really thinks.

The "22 Rules" taught me to push back — playfully, calmly, without needing her approval. Strange things happened after that.

Ok. Well there's this chick that has really liked me for a few weeks now. I've tried to go somewhere with her a few times but it never worked out. I act like her and her friend (who are in my social studies class, which is basically the only time I get to talk to her at school) aren't really that special to me and that I'd rather hang with someone else or do something else (not to the extreme, just lightly). Anyways, on friday, she asked me to go to this fair (it was gonna be her, her 2 friend's and their boyfriends, and me... get the picture, plus there's gonna be weed!). I gave her an unstraight answer, and joked about, and she kept asking about, so I finally said "sure, if I can" (actually that is true, I had to unpack some stuff, cause I had just moved there). I call her that night (she told me to call her), and said that I could. She was at a football game, and so we talked for a bit but she said she'd call me back when she got home. However she never did that night, but in the morning (but she could've stayed at a friend's house). When she called in the morning I was busy doing something and she was about to go to driver's ed. She was gonna take me to the fair so she gave me instructions to her house and all that jazz. I said I was busy, cause I was, so I'd call her back after she was done with driver's ed.

Now here's the thing. That day was not a good day to go to the fair. I was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay busier than I had planned on being. Another thing was that my cousin came over and so I had to deal with him. He wanted to go to the fair as well, and I would've invited him had it not been for the whole situation. Plus he might be going to a fair with my other cousins (which turned out to be the same fair, but without the other cousins). She was the one to call me back cause I was to busy with unpacking stuff. I told her I'd call her when I was ready to leave for her house. Another thing was that my cable/internet was being installed that day, and he was running late. So when I was ready to leave, I couldn't because my parents had to be there when the guy came! Finally, running a bit later I called the chick and said that I was about to leave. But then I find out that my cousins are going to the same fair so I call her and say that I'm gonna ride with them instead (which was the worst mistake I've made in a long ass time). So right when everything'd gonna work out, I find out that I have to do more work before I can go. I have to help my cousins mom (who's a total goddamn selfish spoiled rich white trash piece of ****), pack something into her truck. So I go over there and help with that garbage, all the while thinking "****, I'm gonna be late!". So I go and help with that, and I'm already an hour late. So I call the chick up and say I'm gonna be running late. Then it gets worse, I have to go help them unpack this thing back at her house which is like an hour away. So I'm cursing like crazy to myself on the way over there, then I find out that they left something back at the storage, so when I get to her house, I have to wait for them to get there. But luckily when we get there, there's someone that can help! So we try and unpack this thing by ourselves. At first we have it, no problem (actually it was a monster), and then BAM, we drop and break it. So not only do we have to wait for that ***** to get back here, but we have to explain this.

The chick calls wondering where I'm at, and I say I'm gonna be really late. They say they're only gonna be there for a few more hours, so I'm like "****!". But then says there's gonna be an after party, which is where the weed's at back at her place. So at least I might be able to make that, but I really wanted to make the fair with her. So I go all the way back to my place cause I have to help with something else. Long story short: I have to do more things she calls wondering where I'm at, then her friend, then her, then she gives the phone to her friend who says "where were you for the last 5 hours?!". Finally, there's nothing in my way of getting there, so I go. unfortunately I get lost and can't find her house. Then she calls and says "(my name), you're so stupid", and I'm like "I can't find your house!" and bunch of other bull****, finally I get the directions from her, and I get there at around 11:30PM. Which is only about 6 hours off of the 5:30PM deadline when they were gonna get there. So I get there (btw, I had to take my cousin, cause of reasons unrelated and he just ****s it up more since he has the special power of making girls not interested in him). So I get there, and we sit around a tennis court, there's like no weed left (I'm not sure there was much to begin with), and everyone's tired and two of the chicks are mad at me (her friend mostly, I'm not sure what the chick was feeling, she seemed tired and depressed looking or something). The guys leave a few minutes after we get there. So we go back to her house outside, I bust a few jokes. Then I try and hug her and say I'm sorry and ****, but she just pushes me away and that's the last bit of kino I get. :-( But she comes back and we sit down and talk a bit (her and her other friend, the one not mad at me). We go inside and talk for a bit which goes a bit downhill. Everyone was tired except for the chick who was mad at me kind of, so it just bombed. In the end I say we're gonna go, but they say "but there's still 30 mins", I make up an excuse or something. Then they say "aren't you gonna give someone a hug", and I say "well apparently someone doesn't want to give me a hug", then the chick says "I'll give you a hug", but we just walk out the door and it's done.

Well it was a string of bad luck, and I should've just said I wasn't gonna come, but I didn't know! I was so pissed off at myself and at my piece of **** family. Did I really mess up with this chick? What am I gonna do? This chick really wanted me to come and I could've hung out with her at other times but I chose not to! Then when she really wants to hang I **** it up! WTF! Is she gonna view me as an ******* for long? She said it was ok what happened, but it wasn't with much enthusiasm. I regret acting ****y when I got there even after what happened! I didn't really explain it entirely. I told her I had to move stuff. What should say to her tomorrow at school? I haven't talked to her since last night, and I really don't know what to do. ****!

"She's Out of Your League"

You've said it a hundred times. Maybe a thousand. And every time you say it, you train your brain to freeze the next time she walks into the room.

Leagues are a myth invented by guys who are scared of women.

She's a person. She has bad breath in the morning. She picks songs she can't sing in the shower. She overthinks her own texts.

Walk over. Say something. The league dissolves the second you open your mouth.

mannn i've had those types of days before... i HATE EM... lol I mean being that im only 16 and dont have a license yet, i have to rely on others to get places, and that can usually intoriduce many problems into situations so i feel where you're comin from. Well I don't think that you messed it up, but I also don't think you should go into detail if she asks you what happened etc... lightly mention "a few family things came up that I had to deal with" lol. Well hope everything works out, it should ;] Good luck, sarge on !

"Why Women Dump the Guys Who Try the Hardest"

You paid for dinner. You drove. You said "whatever you want is fine" every single time. All the effort, no expectations.

And she left anyway — probably for a guy who makes her pick up the pizza.

Painful. Also predictable. Her mind quietly concludes that anything requiring zero effort from her is worth exactly zero. You became a free sample, and free samples get taken for granted.

The 22 Rules flip the dynamic. Small shifts that get her investing effort, money, and time in you — until SHE'S the one afraid of losing YOU.

Are you serious??? ^^^^^don't push/pull

No that she wanted you to come and you fvcked it up just PUSH no pulling. Everyone gets so worried about that **** if their pulling or whatever too much, just make it simple now that you ****ed it up. She probably thinks you don't like her now so just push to go hangout with her now.

Push pull is effective. Believe me.

Judging from what he's said he's pulled. Hence PUSH/pull. You can't go full push in this situation. Sure, push for a while, but eventually you'll have to pull to keep her on her heels.

Wow, that sounded geeky.

Alright you guys, I think I fixed it. I acted like my normal self today. She was a bit distant and non talkative; quiet, in class. Finally I write her a note (the teacher was doing a lecture). It goes something like this:

(her name),

How about I make up saturday for you this weekend?

I promise it'll be fun.

:)

and so I get back:

Ok. :)

Good.

It better be.

And the next time I see her she's acting like her normal self.

Now I just gotta think of a fun date!
