How to track IP's?

Hey guys

Is there a program or website out there that will let me track down the exact address of an IP?

Preferably free or trialware -I only want to track a couple of IP's.

And no, its not for anything malicious lol

I don't quite understand what exactly you want to do. If you you want a
IP => "readable" address
kind of translation, it's called a "reverse DNS lookup".

It's quite easy, just type "reverse dns" in google and you will have a lots of free sites that does that for you. Even under windows, you have a console command for that, just can't remember exactly.

But you might very well be disappointed most of the time. Because many IP translate into, well into themselves. Most malicious people would use IP that doesn't translate into anything useful or URL like so you won't be able to know who they are and where they are from. In this case, you can use the Whois service of the different blabla"Nic" organizations.

Or even better, you can use this freeware to automatize the request.

Let me track down the exact address of an IP?

No. There is no consumer program that tells you where people live, however reverse lookup is the answer. But now, the reverse lookup will be vague, such as...

72.38.161.175 resolves to
"d38-161-175.home1.cgocable.net"
Top Level Domain: "cgocable.net"

Or basically, you don't know where the hell I am unless you know the service areas my provider covers.

Yeah it will never show you exactly where they live. Like doing "tracert (ip address)" in MS-DOS won't really tell you where they live, but it might give you some ideas..
