"She Wants a Man, Not a Boy"

You asked her if she wanted to grab coffee. Then you asked if the time worked. Then you asked if the place was okay. Then you asked if she'd prefer tea.

Four questions. Four chances for her to say no. Four signals that you're terrified of making a decision.

Plan it. Pick the place. Pick the time. Tell her where to meet you. She'll either show up or she won't.

Either way, you look like a man instead of a scared little boy.

So, one of my closest friends has recently become obsessed with being better than me (specifically in our MCJROTC class, but I'm sure there are other areas. I, myself being a pretty competitive guy, make comments about how at the end of the year I will surpass the "best" (physically) guy in our class and because of this he thinks I have a big ego. If anything, this is more of a goal for me in actuality but whatever. Anyway, he *tries* to make fun of me whenever I don't do better than him (which doesn't work because, for one I kinda laugh it off).

The funny thing is, I'm, more or less, the leader of our little circle of friends. Ii just think it's kind of funny how he is trying so hard to be better than me. So, how do I handle this situation?? How would you handle this?

"She Made Her Decision Before You Finished Your Sentence"

Three seconds. That's how long it took. Your shoes. Your posture. The way you held your drink. Whether you looked at the floor or looked at her.

She already filed you away. Interesting. Boring. Safe. Bold. Before you even opened your mouth.

Everything you say after that is just her confirming what she already decided.

So stop rehearsing lines. Fix the first three seconds. Stand tall. Look up. Smile like you mean it. Walk like you belong wherever you're standing.

The words come later. The impression comes first.

Let him try. Just keep being you. Men are and should be competitive- its in our nature.
Just watch your back if he's the jealous type, he might turn into a lil *****.

I agree with this. When I was a younger guy, it seemed like almost all of my friendships with other males had a competitive edge to it. Almost like sibling rivalry. Whatever it was we were doing, we'd always try to best each other at it. But that didn't take away from the enjoyment, we still always had a good time. Lots of testosterone coursing through you at that age, it's like rams butting heads.

If you think it's so funny, why are you even worried about it? Besides, think about it, don't you think he should be aspiring to be the best he can be? Don't you think he should want to be better than you? He's your friend, you don't want him to be a little sissy b!tch, do you? Because if he just curls up and becomes submissive to you, that's what he's going to be.
