How to block popups?

Hey guys I have an annoying problem, recently ive been getting popups, not on the internet but on windows itself. I get advertisements on the desktop, internet explorer opens like 3 pages, random music even plays in the background!

I ran ad-aware and got like 290 infected files but that didnt help!

There are websites on the internet that help people out with spyware and viruses, but I can not find the link to the one I really like to use. People on the forum that are really good with computers can pretty much fix it for you if you follow their instructions. However, sometimes you need to re-format your entire system if it is bad enough.

Try spybot as well

If its the same page or pages that come up just do a search on google. I have had a few problems where a tech forum has a discussion on it where it explains how to manually remove whatever it is.

You also could try to ctrl alt del and look at what processes or tasks are running and see if there is anything that looks funny.
