How much pain should there be?

Im doing burnout sets in my routine and that stuff HURTS. :nervous:

How far should you take the pain? Is it healthy? Can I hurt myself? I know i could probably do one or two more *if i really HAD to (life threatening situation?)*

Also, what methods are good to break the pain barrier?

If you feel pain to either a joint or a muscle, then stop what you are doing because you are either doing something wrong or doing too much of it.

However if only what you feel can be describe as a "burning sensation" then its a good thing while working out, keep at it.

Remember Burn not pain.

Well, if you're training to gain muscle...burnout sets are BAD BAD BAD. They will set back your gains by a LOT. That burning sensation is lactic acid being released, and lactic acid is bad bad bad for muscle growth (it leads to tissue catabolism and makes recovery longer). But if you're doing endurance, then go for it.

Like the one guy said, there's GOOD pain and BAD pain. BAD pain is when your joint is actually HURTING. Good pain is when your muscles feel like they are TOTALLY F*CKING EXHAUSTED.

Last week I was doing heavy lunges. I was going for my 10th rep, and after my descent, I tried to push up again, but my legs died on me!

And, there was no f*cking spotter! I had reached totally failure, but guess what, because I didn't want to look like a dumbass and have to drop all the weight on the floor, I gathered ALL of my energy and pushed that sonava***** weight up!

I am not saying to go around and do what I did, but sometimes, those last reps, the ones where you don't know if you are going to make it, are the ones that really give your muscles that boost!

They say that even getting a little scared..and then CONQUERING it boosts your testosterone levels.

I don't understand why anyone would want to train for failure. If you push yourself till you can't push your muscles anymore, then that's exactly what you're doing - training them to fail.

burnout sets are ****, keep in the rep range of 4-6 and fail at the last rep either 4,5 or 6

Why are burnout sets ****? They tear my muscles more than failing with normal sets and Anthony Ellis reccomends them.

Im kinda confused now :confused:
