i always go for a beer first or sometimes i take them to this really cheap Thai or Vietnamese restaurant here where i live in Taiwan...but it's so incredibly cheap..you can get 5 big 20 ounce beers and a nice sized dinner for 2 people for around 15 us dollars...the same quality and size of meal would easily cost somewhere over 60 dollars in the states...this way i have fun and get a great meal for really cheap and look great while doing it...plus you can sing karaoke while eating and drinking....
But if it's a normally priced western style restaurant..hell no, i just go for the beer...and make her pay half unless you are 100 convinced she will put out that same night...

i always go for a drink for a first date. if im hungry ill order us an appetizer to share. if she doesn't drink or i don't feel like drinking ill have us meet at a tea store or coffee shop. went out with a chick who was a definitely dinner whoring asked to split the bill she flipped out. never again have i had a date with a girl who i hadn't fuked or wasn't 110% into me for dinner.

I do coffee/drinks/minigolf/iceskating/rockclimbing etc no more then 20 bucks total..dinner is boring and if u don't like her personality ur stuck with it till its over....when I go ice skating its fun regardless b.c I'm a hockey player plus much much easier to escalate
Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.
