How does one maintain a good stubble?

I've been clean-shaven for years but for some reason I decided to grow some stubble and I must say I think I look rather fetching.

Interestingly my hair maintains its original color (dirty blond or you could sy light brunette) but my beard is kind of salt & pepper. Actually, that has little to do with my question.

The question is, what do you guys use to maintain a short stubble? I have a typical mens' grooming kit with the usual cutters, but is there some kind of special cutter available that is good for maintaining a consistent stubble, or is it just a matter of running a run of the mill cutter over you face and hoping for the best?

I have something similar. I don't seem to be able to maintain that very short stubble I'm looking for, like a two or three day growth. Are you able to do that?

Yeah, on the shortest setting. It does throw little beard hairs everywhere, though.

The shortest setting leave you a little bit of shade more like a 2 days beard, if you are looking for a little bit darker tone you should use the setting right after the shortest, no need to add any plastic tool (the ones u use for hair) just shift to the "longer" clean set...most machines have it on clean configuration.

I was used to do like that to keep a 3-4 days shade.
