Okay this is just a wild guess here, but

Yes that would be the obvious answer. A lot of times people just may be humoring you though. I think it's just trial and error, watch stand-up comedy, funny movies, just absorb all this stuff and it'll rub off on you. Great examples of how to act are Chevy Chase in Fletch and Ryan Reynolds in Van Wilder. They have the ****y/funny witty thing going on, but they're also very charming and charismatic. Confidence is very important.
