How can you whiten your teeth?

My teeth really aren't very white and I want to change that. I brush my teeth twice a day and have been an extremely good brusher for at least 4 years or so, but I guess I did too much damage when I was young. I use a toothpaste with a "whitening" formula, but I don't notice it doing anything....what can I do to whiten my teeth?

Crest and other toothpaste companies sell whitening strips that you stick to your teeth for a certain period of time. The strips can temporarily give your teeth a cleaner look. However, from what I have heard, you have to keep using the strips regularly to maintain the whiteness.
