What would be the result of a high protein intake while doing a lot of cardio? I'm just wondering because I would like to gain but a lot of cardio is unavoidable for me.

Also, whats the best way to increase the size of the lower arms?

You can definitely gain while doing a lot of cardio although the type of cardio is important. If you're a runner forget it, if you just walk a lot then it's perfectly possible. You will simply have to eat more, which is never a bad thing.

The way to add size to any part of the arms is to add mass to the whole body. You cannot isolate certain muscles effectively without the rest also growing (especially not small muscles like arms).

Haboob, this is the counter-intuitive reality that you must learn to accept and work with. Your body grows as a unit.

I can't tell you how many years I squandered on curls and only managed to attain less mass than I have in the last year simply devoting myself to a simple regimen of compound lifts while gradually increasing the weight.

Ok thanks guys I get the point. The only way to grow is to grow the whole body. I should have known that.

So I do a lot of running. Are you telling me that it is then impossible to gain?

I don't see how this is counter-intuitive.

Why WOULDN'T muscles grow as a unit? Why would a giant chest and a teeny tiny back make any sense? Why have giant hooks (arms) when the the crane is out of order (back and legs)?

If anything this is the intuitive common sense part that got overridden by all 'your' dumb friends and magazines that give you 4 exercises a day for biceps.

Ruckus, point taken -
Counter-intuitive in the respect that a misconception prevails that big biceps or big forearms = arm exercises.

The reality here is a bit more complicated, you don't get the biggest arms possible by working them directly. That is the part I'm saying is counter-intuitive.

Maybe it's as simple as a little education.
