Why "Whatever You Want" Keeps You Single

She says the movie looks dumb; you suddenly agree. She tests you with a little attitude; you apologize for nothing.

You think you're being easy to get along with. She reads something else entirely: a man with no edges. Nothing to hold on to. No friction, no tension, no reason to wonder what he really thinks.

The "22 Rules" taught me to push back — playfully, calmly, without needing her approval. Strange things happened after that.

Put yourself in a following situation:

You're on your birthday party. You look at your wife, and she smiles at you. You just can't wait til midnight, when you'll get a special present from her. Your kids are happily eating the cake and they're shouting "Happy Birthday!" all the time. Remember, at 7PM you're going to see your friends and have a beer in the bar.

But suddenly, it all stops. It's getting darker, and darker... You have a heart attack. You're laying down on the carpet, with your family looking at you with fear.

Right now you probably regret, that you didn't go to the doctor a month ago... You really thought you're feeling all right and you won't need to visit him.

You also regret you ignored that insurance agent. Well, they'll have $10000 more in their bank, point for them.

Remember that field trip with friends from your job, two months ago? Too bad you didn't go to bed with Monica, Britney or Jane... Now this may the thing you'll regret most.

What else could you regret? Ah, probably those thousand hours you've spent in front of the TV set and the computer. You really could do something better during all that time, couldn't you?

That cute chick you saw four years ago... She was probably the most beautiful woman you ever saw, but you were too shy to go and talk with her. You always dreamt to see her again, later, and go with her on a date, but now...

When you were talking with your dad and you wanted to tell him, you love him. You didn't... Why?

Next Monday you'll feel more confident. After the gym you'll feel more confident. After one more drink you'll feel more confident. After you get a better haircut, a better jacket, a better job.

You've been "getting ready" for two years.

She's standing ten feet away right now. She'll be gone in four minutes. No amount of preparation will manufacture the courage that only comes from moving your feet.

Walk over. Stumble through the first sentence. Let it be clumsy. Let it be imperfect. You will feel more alive in those ten seconds than you have all month.
