i'm a 21 y/o college student. I live at my parents apartment b/c my school is a commuter school and also b/c i have no job. I saved up a couple of thousand of dollars the last few vyears though and recently putr money in an online savings account. My parents dont make much money. Threy both make less than 20K total a year combined so we dont make much money and are way below average. Our rent is only 650 dollars a month which helps. My parents never spent much money so they saved a lot from working the last 20 years though we are a vey low income family.

I have health first plus insurance and it is free b/c my mother told me if she has children under 24 but older than 18 you get it free as long as you dont have more than 10k in all your bank accounts combined. My mom and dad has no health insurance now b/c my dad works in those low income jobs about 7000 a year part time5-6 hours 45 dollars a day while my mom is still looking for a job. She used to work in a supermarket where she was paid about 13k a year at the most.

Recently i got into a big accident while ice skating. I fell and fractured my middle and ring finger and bled so much that i was rushed to the hospital. I lost my hearing and sight for a few minutes which scared me to death b/c i thought i was going to die and also i lost a lot of blood. I am only typing with my right hand now b/c my left hand is stuill healing.

My mother told me that if i did not have health insurance, my bills would probably totaled 1500-2500 dollars because i had an ambulance get me and had my left 3rd and 4th finger sewed b/c of the severity of it. I dhave about 6k saved so that would hurt.

i have about 5 grand on an online savings account and in the future will want to put more money in. My mother told me to never put more than 10K in my bank accounts because if i do, i would lose my health first plus insurance. I dont have 10k now but is this true?I told my mother if i just let my money sit there ... not in a savings account... i lose interest. She said u only make about 15 dollars/month in interest which is true and said the accisdent you were in you would have coughed up 2500 in bills which is why i shouldnt.

I know health insurance is about 450/month a person and that does not incluse prescriptions. She is currently looking for a job where she can get health care coverage for her and my dad now b/c they dont have health insurance anymore.

Can s1 explain the 10k in bank accounts that disqualify you from receiving free health insurance?

if you have more than 200 bucks in a checking account it could disqualify you from getting free health insurance.
if you are over 18 and have a job, you can't get the free health insurance.

Many colleges and universities offer a discounted health plan for their students. I would check into that.

They dont speak English. We are Asian. My dad is 57. He works in a restaurant for about 5hrs/day 5 days per week at 9 dollars per hour. He's been working since he was 16 back in hong kong and ever since he came here in his late 20s primarily in restaurants. He only gets part time work b/c he is aging

My mother just work in those supermarkets but recently it closed down. She is 45 already.

They dont have skills. They didnt even have the option of going to college back then. Thats why my mother told me to graduate and get a good job like an accountant so i wouldnt be like them.

we live in new york city.

yes i know about those lazy ppl who refuse to work and just sitr on thei butt doing nothing and those ppl are horrible. My parents just didnt have education which is why they have low income jobs

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

Beyond your peripheral vision
call the hospital and ask about their charity program for low income people. Most hospitals are also non profits and get a lot of money from the gvt because of that status. These same hospitals do nothing to advertise that they are non profit, and most people don't know to ask. We are talking good famous hospitals, not just the crummy ones down the street.

It is even hard to find the info on google. Try that^^ and if they give you crap, come back on here and let me know.
