Not to derail your well-thought out post, but I don't think it pertains to all women...

My girl-friend of 20 years age is more than happy when I take a night out with my best friends, she almost becomes happy it when I tell her I am out without her.

It's all about getting the driver seat, but as Zekko points out, controlling women don't want to give it up so easily..
