I've hung out with basically the same guys ever since I was 16/17...and now I'm 23..and during the last couple of years things have like really been breaking apart..not like I had an argument with any of my friends..actually ive never had an argument with any of them, but I'm not really feeling them too much anymore..I mean I'm like very close to one friend and his g/f (whos maybe my best female friend or whatever)..two other friends have moved to different towns and there's like little to no contact left..and..it's like really crazy I never thought this would happen to me, but NONE of my friends go out anymore..I mean of course they do but really like sooo seldom (when we would go out two days a week every weekend...). It really sucks, because it's like..usually either I go out by myself (and sometimes bump into an acquaintance or two) or I dont go out at all. Basically..what can I say I'm really kinda thru with this, I know it's time for a change...it's not like I'll completely forget the people ive been friends with for that long time, but i definetly need to get to know new people.....I mean..really something like a second chance, a new beginning if you know what I mean. I'm just 23 and single after all and only started to have success with the ladies at about 20..so I feel like I'd be missing out on a whole lot...

So here's my plan: I have 4-5 months of vacation each year (I have to study though..as Im in college) and I have around 5000 Euros in my bank account..probably like 6000 dollars or so...I've travelled alone before and like languages (I speak english, french & german and would like to improve my french which isn't fluent and/or learn another language)...so I was wondering...maybe I should just be like **** it and spend all my cash on travelling to a couple of places I wanna see over the next year or two...so I can see if I find a place where I truly wanna stay..and then try to get an internship there or study abroad in that place for a semester or so if possible or find some other way to pull it off and get connections there (I see myself as rather a little introverted, but I'm not an ass lol and usually make friends fairly quickly...) and maybe get there for good...? I have to say I do get sorta homesick a little faster than most people (but ive travelled alone before even if just for a few days), but I think if I like a place and have been there before and stuff..and make friends there I should

I know this sounds a bit like too much planned in advance, but that's why I thought my best bet might be to just spend the money on seeing DIFFERENT places and then see where I can go from there...if u get what i mean.

has any of you guys done something similar like that? Like..just got the hell out of where they used to live all their life and move to a better place? I feel like maybe that's really the way to go for me, especially b/c I don't really have too much, that would keep me here and thus keep me from trying to take that big step?

And..has anybody experience with travelling and getting cheap accomodation etc.?

thx guys...

P.S.: I just realized I might have typed this thread a bit too quick and left out a couple of words or something, but I'm sure you guys get my point ;)

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

Although I am only 17 I am going to tell you the piece of the puzzle you're trying to figure out: Follow your bliss/heart. Simply put do what you want to do. I know I do. When I graduate the first thing I am going to do is travel Europe for a month and see the world. After that I'll come home broke but I know I'll still be happy.

Not sure if this helps but I tried.

If you're conversationally competent in French, you could get a job with Club Med teaching snorkeling or something to rich Francophone tourists. The job location is unbeatable, you get to eat Club Med food, and you have a decent place to stay. Plus you'll come home with a much higher level of competency in French.

Same age, a bit different situation but generally its the same for me.

I thought about quitting my job and joining the military or the peace corps (haha), etc.

In the end I decided to keep my job, stay where I was and just network. Its not easy being in a situation with no family or friends to back you up, but it gives a whole new meaning to that Powerman 5000 song: "Living so free is a tragedy" (too many options : )

You'll get a free trip to the desert and come back loaded..

See you there!!
I was about to say this. Im joining the Air Force in October. I guess I want to start a new life for a few reasons. I want to see the world. I dont like the women I meet here. I also feel like I have very few friends because they all refuse to grow up. They also act as if they can sit around while I do things for them like drive them places, and talk to girls for them. Not that I have done any of that

@seanchai: Can you tell me a bit more about this club med thing? Are there any other job opportunities than snorkeling (which isn't something I would enjoy, I'm afraid)? I just googled for it a little (because I had never heard anything of it..I'm in germany maybe that's the reason) and basically found out what it is, but I think it would take a whole lot of time to find out about possible job opportunities etc. plus you seem to know someone who's done it before or have at least heard something about it...?

But basically, I have to say I do like the idea..I mean I'm gonna spend my 6000 or so dollars on travelling and seeing the world a little and afterwards I'll know which places I like and should try to get an internship or some other sort of job (like the thing you just mentioned) so I can get to know a couple of people and get some connections...and then come back and stuff...and let one thing lead to another..but for something like that it's always crucial to have connections...

I know about around-the-world-tickets and have thought of that option, too...Ill take a look at the website though, later (im just taking a qucik break from my studies right now).

How is Toronto, though? just saw you were from there and that's one of the places I'm interested in visiting..I've heard Toronto and Montréal are very similar to us american big cities on the one hand, but on the other hand a lot of things that don't work in most U.S. major cities do work there (better)..as in public transport...crime...though I really dont know if thats just something ppl say or if its true...but tell me please..how you like T-dot ;-)))

Save yourself alot of time and money, don't bother coming to Toronto. The women are cold, there is no culture. People are here only to make money.

You have been warned.

Thanks guys, but as I plan on going to Montréal and New York for a week I'll probably just have to check out Toronto for a day, too ;-) but at least now I know I don't need to spend more than a day or so there.

No, Toronto is one of the worst. I've had so many men tell me this out of the blue, its now a law.

Now Montreal is a much better place to meet women. Infinitely better that this ****ing city of Toronto.

I was looking at it from a more general perspective..not only to meet women...but I hardly doubt your attitude towards toronto would change by a lot if I told you, would it?lol
