While it's pretty easy to get numbers from those sets I still haven't been able to easily isolate a girl when she is with her friend during the day and take her on a quick date, what are the best tips? Is it worthwhile taking both girls on a date? I think that is easier if they are tourists or the girls are very into you but if not it might be harder.

Instantaneous dates from non-bar approaching are quite rare. They are rare when approaching women already isolated.
I agree with @BPH that women with 1-2 other friends are not going to agree to an instantaneous date. In fact, I think you'd have difficult doing stops and having conversations with non-isolated women in outdoors, non-bar venues (think parks, the street, or a walking path).
With non-bar approaching, the general idea is to start a conversation to set up a bar date for a future night and collect her number.

This is one area where I can finally share a success story on this forum for once.
I was able to go on a mini-date with 2 gals after an organized singles event.
As for how I managed to pull it off, at the end of the event, I asked one woman if she'd like to go on a mini-date. She said she's on board as long as the friend she came to the event with was on board.
Turned out the friend was on board. I then went on a mini-date with both.
