Hey guys ive been reading this foreum for a while, and its been a big help. Im trying to gain some muscle mass, im 6’0 150, and have always been a skinny guy.

Ive been using a 3-day split as follows mostly from Diesel and A-Unit posts:

1: deadlifts, bb/db rows, weighted chins or body pull-ups
3: incline db prses, flat db press (alternating which is first), dips, sometimes tri iso work
5: squats, straight-leg deadlifts, bb shoulder press

same-muscle supersets: flyes, lunges, side raises, tri pulldowns, lat pulldown.

Im considering subbing leg press in place of stiff deads, what do you think?

sets of 7, 5, 4, 2, and a lower weight set of 8-10. I sometimes add an extra set into squats. I also tried adding 1 set of 20-rep squats to every workout, but it felt like I had over trained after two weeks.

I would appreciate any critiques on my workouts.

A week ago I injured my middle finger in a boxing match, and cant do much heavy barbell work, so im looking into the fancy machines (ugh, I know) for th next few weeks b/c the grip is much easier.

What do you guys think of the hammer strength machines? We have one for chest press and one for deadlift. Has anyone ever used them and found them worthwhile?

Thanks

If you don't wrap your thumb around the bar, you can do bench press without gripping with any fingers. You can do that with other exercises too, though sometimes it requires a bit of forearm strength. Have you tried deadlifting with straps?

ive never used straps, thats a good idea. my forearms typically wear out first in pullups. theyre not particuarly strong, i have very skinny wrists.

i tried deads without the straps, couldnt lift 100lbs below my max for 5 reps. ive done squats, lighter military press, should be able to do db press...

back exercises is the main problem, a strong grip is needed for pull, deads, rows. there s a deadlift machine, i have no idea if its any good.

You can use straps on all those. They should help immensely. There're other contraptions out there that work even better than traditional straps (http://www.bigfitness.com/blaclifhook.html).
