Instead of putting effort into keeping crazy people away from guns, maybe we could just start giving a sh!t about crazy people. A long time ago, there used to be nice, government-funded homes where we housed them. But we decided to close all of them down to save money, and push those people back out into society...and often prison. I lived in Tampa next to a mental health facility that got its funding cut, so they pushed most of the residents out the door at sunrise, and didn't let them back in again until dark. So they just walked in circles around the block all day. This was not a funding cut that benefited society, but it's not like the crazy people of the world have lawyers and lobbyists to promote their interests.

Just need individuals, acting alone, so they dont get ratted out. 100 guys, each doing 100 billion $ worth of damage to the economy, and big Bro won't HAVE any money with which to pay his thugs anymore. Nobody works for free. Especially not if a lot of them are being silently shot for doing so.

for instance one man, in one night, can burn CA off of the map. presto 10% of the nation is homeless, no job and another 10% will have to be spent on saving them. Just like that, boys. 200 or so of the right people being shot, over a month's time span, would reverbrate pretty loud, too.

I'll go out to left field on this one. This isn't my opinion, just something I've thought about.

Anybody ever thought that guns might be a GOOD thing as far as thinning out the population? I mean, how many gangster thugs would be running around if we did NOT have guns? Yeah, they'd still commit crimes via other weapons but they'd probably still live. I think that's the true reason democrats want less guns, because guns are killing their potential voting base. I think the dems are correct that guns make most crimes more lethal, but is that a BAD thing? Yes, some good people get killed in the crossfire, but by and large it's the sh*tball scum of the earth who are out to harm others and commit crimes, that get whacked.

Same thing with abortion. Abortion is killing 33% white, 33% black, 33% other races from the last study I saw. Population of the U.S. is about 65% white, 13% black and 22% other. And I would guess this is the poorest, most single parent ie susceptible to crime portion of the people groups. Is this a terrible thing that potential orphans and fatherless thugs/hors are not growing up and walking the streets?

Now, I do NOT support abortion. Let's keep that straight. I support the family unit, which produces competent adults. I also do NOT support killing people outside of defending yourself. I don't want to see that get twisted. I'm really just trying to show how messed up society has gotten, that rather than defending the family unit, we've turned to these mechanical means to thin out our population while living with our self-imposed sins.

you don't understand that over 2 million times each year, guns in the hands of civilians STOP a crime? of the 25 million per year killed by gun wielders, 60% are suicides. half of the remainder are shot for committing a crime. and half of the remainder are no loss to our society, being dregs. So it's 2 million good, 2000 a loss. 1000x better off with guns. we need everyone to be able to ccw a pistol. the million or so screwups get shot, and everyone left is way better off.

I think that number is crap. I live in a crime-ridden town and don't know anyone who has ever used a gun in "self-defense." Yet gun advocates claim one in one hundred (or so) people use guns every year in self-defense. Miss me with all that! The real number is more like 1,600.

Furthermore you are more likely to suffer an injury during a crime after using a gun in self-defense instead of hiding or calling the police.

The day I see people all over the country stocking up on AED devices (which you are far more likely to use in the course of life than a gun) is the day I believe people are serious about safety.

I know lots of people who have pointed guns at several (or more!) people in their life. Other than cops and one owner of a store in S.W. Philly they all generally went out of their way to find, promote, and start trouble. They may consider their gun uses "defensive" but I imagine the person on the other side of the gun did not. In fact all of them courted trouble in part because of the confidence that their gun gave them. Not a very good thing in my eyes.

I don't want to insinuate you do the same thing by the way but simply to point out that most "defensive gun uses" I'm aware of are hardly such.

Wrong. I just didn't crawl away on my belly from some pos who THOUGHT he was going to assault/intimidate me, and what I did is what everyone SHOULD do. Actually, what they SHOULD do is gutshoot the pos and society ought to give them a medal for doing so. WHY should some assaultive pos get ANYTHING but gutshot, hmm? and why should the legitimate defender do anything else? Why not just no longer HAVE ANY asaultive pos's in our society. Anyway, "gun rights" are slowly being chipped away like "smoking rights." I personally love this and know it's the only way for a common sense gun policy to reign. I think the generation coming after me are decidedly anti-gun and will do the important work in doing the right thing.

Not sure what can be done about the millions still around though. Solving that problem will take even longer.

right, an additional 30 states now have "shall issue" CCW permit laws and you "think' you're winning? there's 100 million more guns in the US than there were 20 years ago, and you "think" you're winning? Supremes have held the 2nd amendment to apply to the states and to be an individual right, and you 'think" you;'re winning? Just goes to show how out of touch anti-gunners ARE.

Now that we have the net and youtube, the facts and fun of guns is many times more available to everyone, and Fox News is constantly showing people how fos you liberals are.
Silencers are going to be removed from the NFA 34 list pretty soon. There's half a million of them made in the US every year and a dozen states now allow hunting with a silencer.
