The Rebound Guy is the guy that women prey on to fill a void that was empty due to a heartbreak, betrayal and distress from a previous relationship. This guy’s primary job is to save the jilted woman from loneliness and provide her with a sense of self worth and value that she wants to retain.
The Rebound Guy is assumed by the woman, to have no personal feelings towards her and in return, she is not obligated to show any real mutual love and respect towards him. This kind of relationship is pretentious therefore, women dealing with this type of guy will parade him around like a rental car that’s being driven out of a car lot and like a rental car; it is only temporary and she will soon trade him in for a new model. The Rebound Guy is like a quick fix to a damaged part of a woman’s ego; a screw and bolt here, some drilling there etc. The Rebound Guy takes pride in being a “savior” and he may feel that he has a guaranteed shot in establishing a relationship with the woman. Unbeknownst to her, she will more than likely be oblivious to The Rebound Guy’s feelings because it is all about her own emotions and her own needs.
In time, the woman’s pride will be repaired and like all quick fixes, a change will develop. That change will be something The Rebound Guy will not be a part of in that woman’s life. All the time given to her has now come in vain and the end is near. Her pain is gone so heart breaks and self pity have long disappeared and what reappears is a woman who has now rebounded. As a result, the woman looks better, feels better and she is ready to move on. Much to his chagrin, The Rebound Guy’s job is now done and his services are no longer needed. The woman’s self esteem has advanced tremendously; so advance in fact that, the woman feels that The Rebound Guy is now holding her back. This will quickly breed resentment and tension between the two. How ironic that some time ago, The Rebound Guy was in fact her personal safety net. Of course the “safety net” has become a “net trap” that is confining to her and she is now ready to get on her own two feet and move into a totally different relationship realm.
The pink slip is handed and as a result, The Rebound Guy is “kicked to the curb.” He is not at fault however, because he was just a temporary remedy--- a medication to heal a wound that has long been treated. The fact of the matter is this, the Rebound Guy is expendable and disposable and it is a hard lesson to men out there when dealing with a heartbroken woman. Do not put yourself in a position to be The Rebound Guy especially if you know you may possibly catch feelings for her. Do not entertain the thought of being “that guy” and value yourself as a man instead.
