Grandma's dog is too attached to me

I live with my Grandma and she has two little Havanese a boy and a girl. The problem is that the bitch is basically in love with me. The boy dog acts more like a cat, he's not desperate for attention.

She always comes running to me when I get home. She parks herself right next to my bedroom door when I'm in my room. And she wines if I walk past her without petting her. She likes to sit in high traffic areas and I've accidentally stepped on her a couple of times. If I sit on the couch she immediately jumps on me. She also has the worse breath I have ever smelled on a dog and she loves to get in your face

I used to be more affectionate in the past with her but I've cut back this past year hoping she would start to leave me alone and it's not really working. Is there anything I can do stop her from being an AW? I've started lightly pushing her away with my feet when she sits on the ground next to my chair when I'm at the dining table. I don't want to hurt her I just want the stupid dog to leave me alone.

it's just weird to use the words *in love* to describe that.

it's way less creepy to think of it as the dog finding security and comfort from you.

edit// now that i actually clicked the link to the wiki... i have one of those dogs. they're awesome. but they can tend to get a really sour smell in their fur quickly... since their fur grows so fast and curly becoming matted.

i think those are called "toy poodles"

one of my favorite type of small dogs, no doubt. they're REALLY smart also.

Maybe the words "in love" weren't the best choice but it was the only thing that came to mind. I've never had an animal so attached to me and it's annoying.

That article describes them almost perfectly. The boy loves to do figure eights around the dinning room table in the living room. Because they are not trained at all, they have all the faults listed, but only worse.

But going back to my original question. Is there any real way to get a dog to leave you alone?

the one that feeds them, loves on them, and that they run too and want to be with to the point that they bark to get in to you to check on you, and lay at your feet when you let them.

a dog that loves you like this, will attack an intruder in an instant, will always protect you.

this dog sees you as the master, not your grandparents.

do you really want the dog to leave you alone or does it just irritate you that the dog is always there?

I cared for a dog over a span of a few months.

At first it liked me, we got along fine. Not to the degree you describe, but always pleasant.

My grandma is the master as both dogs fallow her everywhere and they are super excited when she comes home. But when she is not around I'm like the secondary master, I guess. Actually I think if me and my grandmother both call the dog she will come to me. And I give the dogs a lot less attention that she does.

The dogs are odd. The boy likes me but also fears me. He knows that I'm the boss and that he can't push me around like he does to my grandmother. When I walk by he gets out of the way. The girl gets stepped on....

As for your questions it irritates me that the dog is always there. I have no problems giving the dogs attention but it's on my terms. The boy knows this and does not come to me for attention.

Gubby, she's an AW I don't think giving her more attention would work

try to with hold affection until you tell her to lay down and be quiet or sit or something. teach her to be quiet and still, and then award her with a yummy treat and affection.
teach her to mind you without being mean to her.

-Get a professional trainer who can train her to stop getting up in your face, jumping on you, laying in the hallway etc...

-Read up on how to train her your self

-Suggest Getting rid of her

-Get some doggy breathe mints!
