Salvation of what though? Buddhism doesn't believe in a souls.But that still sounds like religion too.
Developing no attachment to things is the same as saying separate yourself from the world and all its lusts that bring people in bondage. Just saying..still works based salvation when you look at it. Not everyone is a materialist, including atheists.
To put it in christian terminology, nirvana is attained exclusively by Grace. Except that there is no separate God figure to grant it, and any effort aimed at attaining nirvana is precisely how not to attain it.
Non attachment means to not get hung up on separation of self and other, because it's an illusion. To say that there is self separate from other goes against the very core teaching of buddhism, and making that distinction is the source of bondage and suffering.
