My family and I are planning a trip to Las Vegas. I've never been but my sister and brother have been there. There are 2 things I'm going to do for sure. Play in a poker tournament and shoot some guns. I've never done that before (being Canadian) and it fascinates me. Beyond that I'm open to ideas and suggestions of "must dos".

Does anyone have any tips, suggestions or caveats. Thanks.

If you want to play some cheap dailies, head downtown to the Nugget. The Orleans has a good 4/8 Omaha game with a half kill. The Luxor also has some cheap dailies. The nice thing is, if you bust out at the Nugget, you can still make the afternooner at the Luxor. You'll have so many options for tournaments (times, buy ins, etc) that finding the right one for you won't be a problem. I know the Bellagio has (had?) their Friday night tournament, $1000+100. You will definitely rub some shoulders with pros in that one.

I don't know what your level of play is, but if you like tournaments there's one for every level. Concerning cash games, by far the most popular game is 1/2 NL. I prefer limit games, and good games (weak/tight) can be found nearly anywhere if you know what to look for. Have fun.

Well this might sound really simple and whatnot, but make sure you allot a day or a half day to just walk up and down the strip with your mouth to the floor like a kid, lol. Sh!t is crazy, son!! ;)

What makes it better is you can carry around a free drink (from the casino of course, just make a pit stop in one when you get low...)

I probably looked like the biggest retard when I was in vegas, haha. Good times...

Yeah, but get a normal sized drink. They sell these "Yard o' liquor" drinks that just make you look like a buffoon. They're so big they give you a lanyard that you wear around your neck and hooks to the stupid thing because they're are outrageously large, heavy, and cumbersome.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

Thanks for your responses everyone.

I love Omaha and 7 card stud. I play on-line a lot and do a few local tournaments. They're usually Texas Hold 'em and I've been in the money in a few of them. I love poker!

I won't be playong any big stakes but a tourney with a 50-100 dollar buy in would be perfect for me. Do they exist?

That's exactly what you'll find at the Nugget and Luxor. 50-100. Most are 60+10, 65+10 something like that. The Nugget and Binion's are right across the street from each other and stagger their morning and afternoon tournaments, allowing you to bust out and find another tournament to your heart's content.

Beware. I had a guy CALL my all in with no pair/no draw. Caught runner runner two pair to knock me out 2 shy of final table. Thing is, you want him to make that call every day and twice on Sundays, but it still sucks when the beats rain down. You will come back with plenty of bad beat stories. Sorry to subject you to my own...

Just google "vegas daily tournaments" for a shedule.

Ask your concierge for a good gunnery range. There are tons and none that expencive.

As for poker...well honestly gambling isn't my thing. I never really gamble except for the occasional sports bet and slot machine so i drink for free....unless it's other people's money, then right to the craps table!

Check out Rock Canyon. This a good time of year for that trip. Get BBQ and Brewery beer at Ellise Island just behind the Paris/Bally's off strip. Cheap good food!

Yep.

That's the store on Tropicana and Topaz. They have a good selection and it's only about 20 mins off Las Vegas Blvd. On your way back to the strip, Be sure to swing by the Paradise Cantina on Paradise and Harmon. It's right acoss the street from the Hard Rock and is my absolute favorite locals bar off strip.

Thanks again, PRMoon. I'll definitely look into Paradise Cantina. Maybe I'll stop in with a wad of cash after cleaning up in a poker tourney.

It's no problem gentlemen. Remember I'm an actual concierge so if you have any questions about event's or anything, I can literally have the details for you following my shift.

Have fun and good luck!

Thanks,PRMoon. You've been a great help. I won't be going until the end of June but it would be great to meet you. You sound like a great guy.

Please keep an eye on this discussion if I or anyone else has any more questions. Thanks!

Does anyone have any information on the Mirage or the MGM Grand? Those are the 2 we're considering at the moment. Thanks

I stayed at the Mirage in October and its a great place to stay. They have some of the hottest clubs in vegas.. Revolution and LAX. The prices are reasonable for a 4 start hotel. If you wanna shell out some cash, hit up the Wynn or the Venetian. Oh and if you're into blackjack.. head to downtown Vegas and try out "Blackjack Switch". Its quite fun, and I believe your odds of winning increase.

LAX is in the Luxor. Revolution and Jet are in the Mirage.

Stay at The Paris. Even though it's a rival company, honestly if I were visiting, I'd want to stay there. They have great restarunts on strip that are affordable. The rooms prices aren't high for a strip property and it's in the center of South Las Vegas blvd (The happening end of the strip). It's close to the free way so you can get around town fast too.

What the heck is Blackjack Switch? That one's new to me...and I went to school for Casino Ops.
